Hillis has a new night cook at their lunch room, Mr. Winner of Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Peters were vis iting at the A. E. Leesley home on Monday evening. Albert Erickson went to his home at Kirk. Colo., Monday to look after things for a few days. Trof. and Mrs. II. E. "Warren and sons Russell and Jerry were Lincoln visitors on last Saturday. Miss Blanche Bright was a visitor for a few days with friends and rela tives at Hamburg-, Iowa. Virginia Newkirk has been having a siege of the flu for the past week, but is better at this time. Mrs. Mercer of Falls City is here visiting her daughter Mrs. Frank Hurlbut and family this weeky Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Carpenter and son Douglas cf Lincoln visited with Mrs. Minnie Mason on last Sunday. Mrs. Albert Erickson is reported to be improving at this time, which will be good news to her many friends. James Greer was called to Lincoln last Monday to look after some busi ness, making the trip over to the big town in his car. P. A. Sanborn was looking after some business matters in Lincoln on last Tuesday, driving over in his auto for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Ileadley and son Jack were dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trunken bolz on last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Willis spent the week end visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hillis. Mrs. Willis remained for a visit here this week. Mrs. Dora Leesley, Mrs. Lulu Hurl but and Mrs. G. W. Lunciford drove to Waverly last Friday afternoon to attend the R. N. A. lodge meeting. Mrs. Elizabeth I Ionian, of Omaha, a daughter of John J. Mefford, Wcis a visitor with her father, J. J. MefTord, for a few days during the past week. Mr. and Mis. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins and daughter, Ruth, of Man ley, were Sunday guests of Mrs. W. L. Hillis for lunch and six o'clock dinner. Rex Young, of Plattsmouth, repub lican candidate for sheriff, was look ing after business in Greenwood on last Tuesday and meeting his many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Cook and family of Elmwood and Mr. and Mrs. Emory McDowell, of Lincoln, were visitors at the C. A. Mathis home on last Sunday. E. L. McDonald was looking after some business matters in Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon of last week and while he was away the store was locked after by Mrs. McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong have just returned home from Gor don, where they visited his brother, Hugh Armstrong and family. He also did some duck hunting while there. William Potter, of riattsmouth, was a business and social visitor in Greenwood on last Wednesday after noon and was accompanied by his grandmother and her fishing part ner. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Ileadley were over to Lincoln on last Thursday evening, where they went to attend the wedding of a sister of Mr. Head- ley, Mis3 Bennle Ileadley, to Mr. Arthur Hand, of Interior, S. Dak. Mrs. Nancy Hurst of Los Angeles, Mrs. Duane Wickland. Mrs. Lawrence Wickland, Mrs. Sheffield and daugh ter, all of Valley, and Mrs. Mary Tal cott were dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. N. D. Talcott on last Tuesday. Mrs. Myra Howard returned home Sunday afternoon after a week's visit with her daughter, Mrs. Austin Fin ley and family near Emerald. While, away she also visited the John. Kyles family near Lincoln. She reports a most delightful time. Messrs and Mesdames Earl Bartley and Earl Smitlr, all hailing from Powhatan, Kansas, and the former couple cousins of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Mathews, were spending last Sunday at the Mathews home, where all en joyed a very fine time. I A group of friends stepped in on Miss Eunice Kyles Monday evening, October 17th, to help her celebrate her birthday. Pinochle was played during the evening. Lois Blair re ceived high honors and Alta Kyles low. Light refreshments were serv ed. Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Hall were over to Lincoln on last Thursday night, where they were attending the wed ding of Miss Bennie Headley, and where Mrs. Hall played the wedding inarch as well as accompaniment for Prof. Lee Kold,- who sang at the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smith and daughter and Earl Bartley and son Garrett, of Powhatan, Kansas, drove up Saturday to visit at the R. E. Mathews home. On last Wednesday Hon. W. B. Banning and Dr. Stacey Niday, both of Union, were in Greenwood and were meeting with the people and put ting forth the excellent abilities and telling of the excellent service which Mr. Banning has rendered for the people while a member of the state senate in the past. They were leav 5ng literature touching on the work of Mr. Banning as well as for the perusal of the voters. The King's Daughters Sunday school class was pleasantly entertain ed on last Friday afternoon, October 14, at the Christian church by Mrs. Ben Howard. There was a good crowd present. The business meeting was conducted by the president at which time much business wa3 taken care of. A vote of thanks was extended to all the men, especially Rev. Goings and, Mr. W. A. Armstrong, who help ed so faithfully In getting ready for the banquet. The.rest of the time was spent socially and with fancy work, after which delicious refresh ments were served . by the hostess. The next meeting will be in two weeks with Mrs. E. O. Miller as hos tess, at the church. George E. Nickles Eere George E. Niekles, who is the dem ocratic candidate for state represen tative from this district, was in Greenwood for a short time on last Wednesday afternoon and was visit ing with his friends here and mak ing more. Mr. Niekles was born in Cass county and has lived all his life in the county, being well qualified to lock after the interests of all tax payers in the county. He is engaged in the lumber and coal business and has a host of friends in the eastern portion of the county who are so by reason of the square dealing which has characterized his life and his business career. Many Attend Ked Cross Meet Miss Catherine Coleman, Dr. and Mrs. X. D. Talcott' and Mrs. W. A. Armstrong were those from Green wood who attended the Cass county Red Cross meeting at Weeping Water a week ago Friday night. Officers of the county organization were chosen and other business transacted. They report a large attendance and much interest injthe work of the Red Cross this year. Attending State Conventions George E. Bucknell i3 a. delegate from the Greenwood lodge of the I. O. O. F., of which he is a member, and Mrs. June Kyles, who is a mem ber cf the Daughters of Rebeckah as well as district deputy grand master of this district and delegate from the Daughters of Rebeckah of Greenwood, were attending the sessions of the grand lodge and the grand assembly in Hastings last week. Visiting in South Dakota ' Mrs. W. A. "White, of Greenwood, accompanied by Jier brother, H. D. Allen, of Wymore, and Carl Patterson and wife, of Liberty, the latter a sis ter of Mrs. White, departed last week for W'essington Springs, South Da kota, where they will visit for about ten days at the home of the mother of Mrs,. White and the brother and sister, Mrs. Sophie Allen and a daugh ter, Mrs. O. E. Walker. Very Pretty Home Wedding At the home of Mrs. Anna Headley, of Lincoln on last Thursday evening occurred the wedding of her daugh ter, Mrs. Bennie Ileadley, of Lincoln, and Mr. Arthur Hand, of Interior, S. Dak. The wedding occurred at the home and was surrounded with the home influence and witnessed by io?e relatives of the contracting parties and a few other friends. The bride is a sister of Mr. D. II. Headley, of Greenwood, and with the husband, visited for a short time in Omaha af ter which the newly wedded couple departed for their ranch at Interior, South Dakota. Peterson and Mrs. Lois Troop, who were in attendance at the difctrict convention of the Woman's Relief corps, at Lyons, re port a very interesting meeting throughout. The first session opened at 9: SO and was presided over by the presi dent, Mrs. Nellie M. Smith, of Ly oii3. The business session was held and then the memorial service was observed, Mrs. Lois Troop of this city, chaplain, conducting the serv ices. At the afternoon session Mrs. Troop also favored the members of the con vention with one of her always en joyed readings. At this session the initiatory work was exemplified by Fremont camp. The election of the officers of the district resulted in the selection of Mrs. Dora Michael, Tekamah, presi dent; Mrsj Arpon, Blair, senior vice president; Mrs. Edna Mattcrson, Blair, chaplain; Sophia Walter, treasurer; Grace Horuer, Omaha, con ductor; Martha Peterson, Platts mouth, guard.
