The Nebraska department of agriculture and the :;tate extension eervice joined torces today to conduct upon a systematic and scientific basis, the fight to erad icate grasshoppers from northern Ne braska counties. After a conference between Trof. Myron Swenk, head of the Univer sity of Nebraska department of ento mology; O. S. Hare, extension ser vice entomologist, and I). I Fclton, deputy secretary of the agriculture department, plans were announced i whereby the campaign will be start ed tomorrow in the infested regions. Swenk and Fclton agreed, the lat ter .aid, that to effectively rout the pest:; the work must be supervised upon an intensive and systenuiiTc manner. Eradication work last year. Felton said, lost the maximum effect iveness in certain localities by lack of knowledge in the proper use of poison, bran. The two departments, therefore with Hare and L. M. (lathes, state entomologist, in the field, will direct the use of poison where information is needed to attain the best results. Hare and Gates, Fellon said, will leave tomorrow for the drouth aroa where' the hoppers again are threat ening wholesale destruction of crops. They will survey the situation with the co-operation of county commis sioners and will advise the county officials as to the purchase of the bran mixture. According to a plan announced by Governor Hryan, the state will match each car of bran purchased in each county. Fellon i; convinced that system atic work in the field at the pres ent time will avert any extensive loss in crops. "If the counties match the 18 thousand dollars the state has made available," he said. "I am confident that with quick action and efficient use of the poison, we can halt the invasion." World-Herald. CREDIT EXPANSION CURB MARKET IS SLUGGISH New York. Oils advanced, rpec ialtiDS reacted and utilities were ir regular on tne curt) marKci jasr wee. Petroleum shares attracted consid erable speculative attention. The su preme court decisios on Oklahoma proration, the international market ing conference here and optimistic reports by a few companies execu tives contributed to the upward t rend. Weakest spots among industrials were mostly stocks which had re cent lv been under pressure. Thus Singer Manufacturing and A. O Smith broke sharply, while some sell ing was noted in Great Atlantic & Pacific, presumably because of the decrease in sales. In the utilities. Electric Hond i'c Share common dipped to a new low New York. The credit expansion committee, headed by Owen 1).
