Palmer of Omaha, who was one of the two successful candi elates for the nomination for chief justice of the Nebraska supreme j court, was in the eity today. Mr. Palmer is a Cass county product and Grover Rhoden and t lie family were visiting for the day on last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis where all enjoyed the visit greatly. Leonard Schaefl'er of Lincoln, was a visitor in Manley on last Monday and Tuesday and was visiting with the father as well as assisting iti the making of garden for the par ent. A. Steinkanip was a visitor in Om aha for four days over thf week end and was at the hospital where he was under observation and was re ceiving treatment. He returned home last Wednesday of last week and was feeling much better. W. H. Frost, bitter known as "Jack Frost" who formerly was in terested in the lumber yard in Man ley, was a business visitor here for a short time on last Thursday and was calling at the lumber yard and also on his many friends here. The Taxpayers' League met at the Manley school building on Thursday evening of last week, Wm. Scheehan, president, presiding, while Herman J. Rauth was secretary. On that evening some twenty members of the Elmwood Chamber of Commerce met at the Community building and Mr. Boag presented in a talk to the members present just what the Lions Club was and how it could be organized bore. At the close of his talk the members present discussed the prop osition and thought that the plan was a good one. Mr. Boag then said that ho would like to have a meeting at Elmwood soon and that members of clubs at Weeping Water, Syracuse and Nebraska City would come to; Elmwood and bring a band and a big program would be on. Longman of Eagle, one of the members cf the petit jury panel for the April term of the district court, seems to be a real juror. Mr. Longman has been drawn on every one cf the cases that have been heard this term and has been accepted on the trial jury in the six cases that have been tried and this morning was placed on the jury for the final case of the term. He is one of the prominent and well known residents 'of the west part of Cass county and apparently has the confidence of the litigents and members of the bar as his selection in all of the cases indicate. This meeting is being called for the purpose of selecting IS delegates to the State Convention to be held in Lincoln, May 5. 932. The business session was largely devoted to the discus sion of the plans for the poppy sale which will be held on Saturday, May 21st. The ladies also in the inter-; est of the child welfare movement are to urge the mothers of the com munity to see that their sons who are of the proper age are enrolled in the Citizens Military Training j camp for the coming summer.
