PICNIC POSTPONED
On account of rain Sunday the
Pleasant Ridge community will hold
their picnic Sunday, June 2Sth, at
Garfield park, in Plattsmouth. Please
bring dinner, silverware, glasses and
sauce dishes. Ice cream and lemon
ade will be served and the Glendale

Mrs. A. D. Asch of Murray, is plan
ning to see the scenii wonders of
the Pacific Northwest and the Cana
dian Rockies this summer as a mem
ber of the third unnu;i Cornhusker
Vacation Tour to that .-( lion. In
stead of the torrid heal of mid-Aug-
ust she will enjoy the tl cool breezes 1
of mountain altitudes and seashore
climates, en route on this two weeks'
trip over 8,008 miles in length.
This will be the third farm vaca
tion tour of Nebraska people ami
their friends to that section of the
country. On the preceding tours
more than 400 people, traveling in
ull-Pullin&n. special tr;.ins. with ob
servation and idning cars attached,
took the trip, enjoying every con
venience and luxury of first-clan
travel, and retained w ildly enthus
iastic over the good time they had,
the scenery they saw and the inter
esting places they had visited.

Iowa, is preparing to celebrate the
Fourth of July in their usual real
up and coming style this year and
in boosting the event they are to
visit this city on next Wednesday
and make the occasion a most pleas
ant one for the Plattsmouth and
Glen wood people.
The Glenwood delegation will com
prise a cavaran of from seventy-live
to one hundred cars. With the band
and other entertaining features as
a part of the visiting delegation.

Ida Guerr, was horn near Murdock
some forty-nine years ago. and the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ghristian
Guerr. who passed away some yean
ago. Miss Guerr was united in mar
riage with Fred W. Backmeyer, from
which union two sons were born,
they being'Harvey of Elmwood. who
is linotype operator for the Leader
Echo of that place, and Jesse, wh:
is attending school at Lincoln.
Mrs. Backmeyer early united with
the Evangelical church and has ever
been a consistent member:-. She has
been in not the best of health for

A Real June
The heat of Friday with the mer
curv touching the 90 mark caused
a general rush of the citizenry last
evening to seek cooler spo's wher
they might enjoy somt relief from
the intense heat of the day and par
ticularly the dwellers i the down
town section of the citv were engag

way?, bathing beaches and the great
outdoors in general in order that
they might escape the beat. The lo
cal summer resort, the Murray bath
ing beach, is to open oi Sunday and
this will afford relief to the residents
here to a greater or less extent. The
youthful residents here have frr sev
eral weeks been en joy in c the waters
of the sandpits near this city, but
this is not a bathing place to in
vite any but the expert swimmers.
