a brother of Mrs. Oldham who is lo
cated at Denver and who is very ill,

Give Surprise Birthday Party.
The friends of Thomas Til3on, who
were coguicent of the passing of his
b.rthday anniversary gathered at
his home one day recently when they
made him a surprise stag party and
sure had a fine evening that Tom will
long remember. There were there for

On last Saturday evening Mr. and
Mrs. Clifton Meisinger entertained a
large number of their friends at their
home west of Murray where a very
pleasant evening was spent in games
and amusements and was made the
more enjoyable by the excellent
which was served.
At the home of Henry Kuhns a
ycung lady came to gladden their
home being welcomed galdly by the
parents, and as she and the mother
were doing well the father was hap
py. The young lady stepped on the
scales and when the bailance was
Btroek it showed she weighed ten and
three-quarter pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lancaster en
tertained on last Sunday and had
for their guests for the occasion and
for a very fine dinner which they
served. Jarvis Lancaster and family,
Jodin Eppings and family of Mur
dock. Dan Harchar and family of
Mynard, and Albert Shudder. A very
pleasant time was had by all.
George W. Rhoden and wife en
tertained on last Sunday for the day
and had as their guests for the occas
ion the families of Glen Rhoden of
Imperial. Galen Rhoden of Platts
mouth, Stirling Rhoden and famiiy
of Lincoln, W. A. Lewis and famiiy
Of Union, Mrs. Mary McConaha and
daughter, Mrs. Mable Barker, of Gor
don. Edgar Poynter and a number of
friends were riding below Nebraska
City on last Saturday night and their
ear becoming unmartngable ran into
another car with the results that both
were more or less damaged while the

Surprised on Birthday.
Knowing the date of her husband's
birthday, and keeping mum. Mrs.
Carl Meisinger invited a number of
friends who came at the appointed
time on last Sunday and gave Carl
a real surprise as some twenty of
their friends made the day most en
joyable, with sof-ial conversation and
games. In their departure they all
extended to Carl the wish for many
more such happy occasions.

Christian Eible School.
The Christian Bible school is
prospering these days and at the
meeting on last Lord's day there was
a large number in attendance, and
all were pleased to listen to the re
rorts which the delegates brought
from the County Bible School Con
vention which convened at Louisville
on last Monday.
BUSEING THE NAVY TREATY
Vancouver Two United States
army aviators equipped with new
pursuit planes capable of spending
nearly 2(10 miles an !four. Tuesday
nigh., were waiting at Victoria to re
ceive Japan's ratified London naval
treaty and sped with it to New York.
It is hoped to deliver the important
document into the hands of Pierre
de L. Boal, assistant chief of the
western European division of the
state department, in time for him to
carry it to Europe when he sails Sat
urday on the Leviathan.
The copy of the treaty, signed by
the Japanese emperor, must be de
posited in London before the pact
between the t ailed tSates, Great
Britain and Japan will become form
ally effective. It is desired to haw
the pact in force by November C
when a meeting of the preparatory
disarmament commission of the Lea
gue of Nations is scheduled to be
held in Geneva. Lieuts: Irvin Wood
ring and W. If. Campbell have been
selected to fly the treaty to New
York.

Has High Place
as Engineer
Outstanding Member of Electrical
Enginering Staff of B. C. A.

Ralph S. Holmes, a former Platta
mouth boy, and son of Postmaster
J. W. Holmes, is visiting in this city.
Ralph was graduated from the Platts
mou'.h high sthasi in 1H19 and from
the Engineering Department of the
University of Nebraska in 1923.
Upon completion of his engineering
course at the Univereity of Nebr: ;
ka. Mr. H:-lmes was selected by the
General Electric Company as one of
it's Radio Enginers and was employ
ed in that capacity by the General
Electric Company at Schenectady,
New York, until January 1, 1930.
Upon the consolidation of R. C. A.
ar.d Victor Corporation under the
name of R. C. A. Victor Corporation,
Ralph was employed as Radio En
gineer at Camden, New Jersey, where
he is now located. The mot remark
able broadcast receiving set in exist
6 ice today, the Radiola Super Hetro
dvne Receiver was developed and de
signed by Ralph S. Holmes, associat
ed with Mr. W. L. Carlson and Mr.
N. E. Wunderlich, Radio Engineers
of the R. C. A. Yi -ur Corporation.

engineers and the fundamentals of
this peer of radio sets is given in
the November issue of the Radio
News. The fact that Ralph is one of
the engineers producing this ramark
able work of which recognition is
given all over the work!, is certain

farm of L M. Davis which has been

lost, but they do tell that one of the
couple became separated it seemed

ether for some time, but finally did
and in time to come home before

Heme Circle Project Ciub.
The Heme Circle Project club met
with Mrs. Ernest M libera Tuesday
Oct 14th. The meeting was called
to order hy tho president, Mrs. Guy
Wiles. The lesson period was con
ducted by project lender, Mrs. John
Davis. Mrs. John Stone joined the
ilu'o. After having some interesting
mania by Mrs. Wiles and Mrs. Mil
hern, a delicious lunch was served
by Mrs. Milbern. The next meeting
will be with Mrs. John Stone.

fy on competitive condition in the
meat packing business. Armour and
Slwift are endeavoring to obtain a
modification of the consent decree
which confines them to meat packing
and closely related lines.
Frank Hunter, president of the
Baal Side Packing company of East
Sit. Lronis and Abraham Goldberg,
president of the Alabama Packing
company oi Birmingham, said their
businesses had rrrown at a rapid rate
during the past few years and that
completition in cattle buying was
keen.
