Will Study the Compensation Laws of State Good Appointed Chairman of Com mission to Conduct Inquiry Will Recommend Changes As chairman of a special commis sion authorized by the last legislature to study the compensation laws of Nebraska and recommend changes thereto. The commission has seven mem bers, Mr. Good being one of three who were selected by the governor to represent the general public. The other two "pro bono publico" mem bers are E. Glen Callen, professor of political science at Wesieyan uni versity. Lincoln, and Walton B. Roberts, attorney, of this city, son of Walton G. Roberts. Two of the remaining four are spokesmen of organized labor, and two will serve on behalf of employ ers. These are: Labor Theodore Jensen, Omaha president state federation of labor; Fred A. Eissler, Lincoln, member of legislative committee for state fed eration and past president and sec retary of Lincoln carpenters' union. Employers Clyde B. "Labor Commissioner Kennedy or any of his helpers will be available to the commission for such assist ance as it may need in its delibera tions," said Governor McMullen in announcing its personnel. "Also the commission may call upon the leg islative reference bureau for assist ance and clerical help." Rothert, athletic coach of the local High school, departed this morning for Peru, where he will be joined by his brother and they will then motor to their home at Harvard, Nebraska, for a short visit before Fred takes up his summer school work. Is Good! Apple Crop is Almost Failure in This Section Lord Says Little Fruit Between Brownville and Nebraska City Sprayed Twice Charles A. Lord, who has just re tured from Peru, where he made a close examination of his orchard and those of neighbors says that the ap ple crop between Brownville and Ne braska City will be less tnan 10 per cent of a normal crop. In his orchard and a good one adjoining him the yield will not be 2 per cent of normal. Out -of 2,000 bearing trees in his orchard he says that there are less than 100 that he will continue to spray, his orchard of 65 acres has already been sprayed twice. The first spraying which showed the tips of the red buds on the apple blos soms, looked about 50 per cent. The second spraying, which is known as the calyx spraying showed fully one third of a crop, but at this time, when the apples are setting on it shows almost a total failure. In the Peru neighborhood the pears peaches and plums are a total loss. The Stamen Winesaps, the Red Wine sap, the Virginia Beauty, the King David, and New York Greenings and the Grimes Golden are a complete failure. It was found on close examination by Mr. Lord that out of 400 Jona thans he has possibly thirty trees that will have a, few apples. Out of 500 Ganos he will have fifty trees with a few, where with an ordinary crop the orchard would produce 20, 000 bushels. Contrary to predictions rrom SIiu bert and Falls City, which stated in earlier reports that the early apples were killed and the late ones would be a fair crop, Mr. Lord says that upon close investigation he has dis covered that, the early apples, such as Duchess and Wealthy, in the Peru neighborhood are almost a complete crop. In his orchard, mowever, out of 4,000 trees, he has one Wealthy and one Duchess. FLOWER CLUB MEETS The beautiful country home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Spangler was the scene of much activity on Wednes day afternoon of this week, when Mrs. Spangler, with the aid of her daughter, Mrs. Reuel Sack, enter tained some twenty members of the Social Workers Flower club. There were also about twenty visi tors to enjoy the splendid hospitality of these hostesses as well as the Memorial day program, rendered by various members of the club. The program, as given was: a vocal solo by Emily Stava, accompanied by Mrs. Mumm, reading by Mrs. Hull, song by Ralph Stava, and at roll call each member gave a quotation befitting the day. After a few moments of visiting, an elaborate two course luncheon was served, after which all wended their homeward way impressed with the profitable way in which the af ternoon was spent.
