NOTICE OF DE
LINQUENT TAXES
OF CASS COUNTY
Xotice is hereby given that I, John
E. Turner. Treasurer of Cass county,
in the State of Nebraska: will on the
first Monday, being the 7th day of No
vember. 1927. as reauired by law, com
mence selling at the office of the
County Treasurer of said county, in
the City of i'lattsmouth, at public auc
tion. so much of the following tract
of lands and town lots as shall be nec
eseary to pay the taxes, together with
interest and costs that may have ac
crued thereon that day. being the de
linquent taxes for the year 1926 anil
Drior yearn, as appears from the tax
lists for said vearu.
Bald sale will be held between the
hour of nine o'clock a. m.. and four
o'clock n m . of said date, and will
continue from day to day between said
hours until all of said property upon
which delinquent taxes remain unpaid
shall be sold or offered for 6ale.

O'Connell has returned from Sher
man and Wheeler counties well
pleased with the three days open
season in those counties for hunting
male pheasants. He said the people
also were pleased with results of the
hunt. There was very little violation
of the fame laws. One man was ar
rested for bunting without a license
and another for hunting after sun
set. Even the farmers had few if
any complaints asainst trespassers.
Next year Mr. O'Connell hopes tc
have an open season declared in four
or five counties.
Bombardment was general the
first day of the hunt, and fields were
dotted with hunters. By the end of
the third day the firing was less
general and less frequent.
Mr. O'Connell estimates that 5,
000 male pheasants were killed in
the two counties by 2,500 hunters
of which 2,000 were from outside the
counties.
The surprise of the hunt was the
small number of birds killed, said
Mr. O'Connell, the average being twe
or three birds. Many obtained the
bag limit, 5 birds in possession at

from a hunter in a corn field and fly
up out of gunshot. Dogs were few
and those that worked were found
good on retrieving wounded birds,
but the birds run so fast that they
soon tire the dogs out.
It is estimated that 3.000 birds
were shipped out of the counties in
bags bearing special tags which had
to be filled out and sworn to by
hunters. Probably 2.000 birds killed
remained within the two counties.
Hunters came in most instances in
automobiles. Some camped and the
majority stayed at hotels. Most of
the birds shipped went out of Loup
City. Many of the resident hunter?
spent most of their time helping
visiting friends get birds in the field.
State Athletic Commissioner Ira
L. Vorhies was one who joined the
hunt on the second day. By that
time 1.500 birds had been killed and
those left were wild and hard to get.
Mr. Vorhies got three. The young
ones are fine to fry and the older
birds can be fried if soaked in salt
water.
"The young males do not show
their colors until Christmas," said
Mr. Vorhies. "so they were difficult
to distinguish from hens. We let
some get away because we could not
distinguish them. Next year 1 pro
pose to try my luck again and I want
