Early last week when J. C. Han
sel assayed to go thrashing with a
span cf mules which he had been
feeding pretty liberally and who
were feeling the good eats provided
by their master, thought to try a
spin down the road. They in some
way got the advantage cf their mas
ter in the contest to run and he see-

The Old Settler's Reunion.
The matter of pushing the adver
tising of the "Old Settlers" reunion
which is to be held on August 12th
and 13th at. the picnic grounds west
of Union is being most thoroughly
done by the secretary of the organ
ization, Mr. C. L. Grave?, who is a
most accomplished advertiser! As a
result of his notices which he has
been sending out and which we read
in one of the papers where notice
was made, he receive-el a letter from
a man who sixty year? ago lived in
Rock Bluffs when a boy for two year?
anel he has indicated his intention of
being at the reunion if he could not
see any other of his old time friend-
except Mr. Graves, but he need not
fear, he will find many of them

Home from the West.
V. B. Banning and sen Hallas,
who have for the past two weeks
been in tlie western portidn of Ne
braska, Kansas and a portion of Col
orado, returned home on last Mon
day, after having been out to see
about the harvesting of some grain
grown on lands owned by the Bank
of Union. Mr. Banning reports the
west enjoying the harvesting and
threshing of a large crop of wheat.
While the- view of Mr. Banning as
to the wheat in the west has been
very liberal, he was indeed surprised
at th". magnitude of the crop, a3 put
ting it in his wonK "there was no
end to the wheat in that region!"
While they were away they visit
ed at Venrngo. Imperial Grant, also
in Colorado, at Arriba, and other
points and at all the places they
were greeted with excellent crop con
ditions. It looks like the west was
sure of it this vear.

The attendance at Sunday school
was very good Sunday, there being
101 preesnt. Everyone do your part
to keep the Sunday school attendance
up.
The sacred musical concert was en
joyed by everyone. Miss Sara Jane
James of Nebraska City gave two
beautiful readings that were very
much appreciated.
The men of the church are giving
an Ice cream social Saturday night
down town. The Union band will
furnish the music. There will be
plenty of home made ice cream and
cake. Be on hand to see tow well the

the Village of Union, Cass county.
Nebraska, that a system of water
works be purchased, erected and con
structed by said Village for the pur
pose of furnishing a supply of water jt
for fire protection and public use
and for the use of the Inhabitants of
said Village, and
That such a system is hereby ere
ated and established from and after
the passage and publication of this
Ordinance; and
That said Village and its inhabit
ants shall be supplied with water fur
nished from a system of water works
maintained and controlled by said
Village; and
That said system of water works
shall be erected and constructeel of
such size and capacity and with such
reasonable provisions as may be re
quired and necessary to furnish
water for fire protection and public
use and for the use of the inhabit
ants of said Village; and
That said system of water works
hall consist of well, pumping equip
ment, pump house, water mains, hy
drants, valves, elevated tank, stand
pipe or storage reservoir, and such
other machinery and parts as may
be thoroughly and reasonably neces
sary to accommodate all demands

its inhabitants.

shall take effect and be in force from
