Things are getting back to normal even in the refugee camps. A couple in the camp at Natchez got married the other day. :o: England Is hep, France is wise and Italy is getting next. Come out from behind the brushvich, Ivanhoff, they have you peggedovitch. :o: America is a country where either the State Department, the Senate, the( weather, or the market are usually wrong, but the people always right. :o: The Lion's Club at Pascagoula is undoubtedly composed of very brave men. It adopted a resolution de nouncing owners of chickens who al low their poultry to run at large. :o: Mr. Coolidge's arms limitation con ference, participated in by three pow ers, convenes June 20th. If there are any bold bandits living in that far-famed region, now will be the time for them to do their duty. :o: ' One happy solution of the Missis sippi flood problem would be to dig up about half the blooming old river and ship it to the Saraha desert. The Idea is at least as practical as some others that have been offered. :o: The muddy flood waters from the Father of Waters have reached the Mississippi Sound, and that body of water may be muddy for several months, making it necessary for peo ple to use feather dusters after bath ing. :a: Observers at Washington foresee the repeal of the remaining three per cent war tax on automobiles at the coming session of Congress. Just like an ostrich. :a: The Chinese invented gunpowder. After the rest of the world tried it out. they evidently have decided it's jolly stuff. :o:- There is really something in a name, after all. Hair dressers now give permanent waves that last al most three months. :o: The number of survivors of the charge of the Light Brigade appar ently exceeds even the total of Lin coln's bodyguards. :o: The one hundred ninetieth anni versary of the birth of Edward Gib bon, the famous historian, was ob served in London recently. Men are outnumbered by women in Paris by 300.000 the cables reveal. The American Legion might change it to "Ladies, we are here!" You can just bet that members of the New York stock exchange are impolite. What man would get up and give a lady his $210,000. :o: We can appreciate the difficulty of the little five-year-old who said she knew how to spell "Banana" all right, only she didn't know just when to stop. :o: This would be a world nearer to our heart's desire if when people be gin, "Now take such and such a situation" they would not insist on taking it themselves. :o: Most any man will tell you that three-quarters of his life has been spent in waiting for some woman tc powder her nose, or make up her mind, or meet him at the corner drug-store, or remember what'f trumps. :o: EXTENT OF THE FLOOD Senator Pat Harrison. returni-.T from an inspection trip through ti e flooded district, has issued a state ment in which he touches upon i point that should be stressed at tl.ls time. The flood disaster is bad, of course and there is no disposition in ti e public mind to hide our wounds, cr minimize the loss sustained, but it i-, nevertheless, a fact that only ono tenth of Mississippi's tillable area hr.s been covered by the flood waters. The remaining nine-tenths of our states has not suffered. In some ports of the United States la queer idea prevails concerning the state of Mississippi. Many people imagine that this commonwealth is one vast swamp, or marsh, and that its entire area has been covered by the flood. The truth is that business Is go- A FREE HAND IN NICARAGUA Dr. Sacasa fades from the Nieara guan scene into exile in Guatemala; the Liberal and Conservative factions have surrendered S.000 rifles and 2SS machine guns: and Col. Stinsou an nounces that peace is fully restored. So it appears. But Gen. Moncada, the military hero of the Liberal cause, who remains to lead his party, utters an unanswerable . incident of our course. He will co-operate cordially with us now that we have thrown off the mask. But, he asks, if it were our policy to intervene to discourage revolution, why did we not do so firmly and promptly? Why did we rot prevent the Chamorro coup against a legal government? Why did we not support the legally elect ed President Solorzano and Vice President Sacasa? Instead, we wait ed through months of bloodshed and then waveringly rescued Diaz, whose little was highly dubious and who had a dar Nciaraguan majority against him. Moncada asks that v.e act straightforwardly and dependably, and he is quite right. Now that we have intervened in Nicaragua, we cannot escape responsibility for all that happens there till after flection of 192S. :o: THE PROFESSOR IS FIRED Hiram Holden. principal of the high school at New York City.
