BATES, Publisher SUBSCRIPTION PRICE $2.00 HOW JESUS' FAME SPREAD And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee; and there went out a fame of him through all the region roundabout. And he taueht in their synagogues, being glorified of all. Luke iv, 14 and 15. The man- who thinks he is always right is wrong. :o: Hope against hope seems a hope less proposition. :o: If bankruptcy comes to Nebraska who Is to blame? -:o:- Trarel broadens a man, but flat tens his pocketbook. :o: When money goes to a man's head it touches his soft spot. :o;- Health hint: Never try to step on a man who is a live wire. :o; Sometimes all the early bird gets Is hungry before breakfast. . :o: Most of the people "who can be cheerful at breakfast are not. -:o:- Old King Coal is a scarce old soul and a scarce old soul is he. ;o: What is worse than no front teeth during the corn-orf-the-cobtime? -;o:- A woman who marries , for monej works more than eight hours a day. :o: . The man who sings through his nose ought to be cut off without a cent. :o: Thanksgiving day is coming. Bet ter be doing something to be thank ful for. The worst thing about a vacation Is the boss is liable to find he does n't need you. . . :o: They call them fall hats because the women fall for them. What about spring hats? -:o:- It is believed that the worst never happened except in the Instance of Noah's flood. -rot- There are so many hoboes in the country it is dangerous to leave a farm over night. 0:0 Theda Bara wants to come back. We haven't heard of Theda since the flappers broke out. :o In London the actors are hard up. Faces on the billboards are behind on the board bills. -:o: Germany is wrapping candy in paper money, but this doesn't make it worth any more. :o: - In Chicago, a man's first and sec ond wives were both grass widows. He must be a vegetarian. :o: The issue is before the people and they are the ones to decide which they want at the ballot box. -:o: A new star has been discovered by a woman astronomer. Now let the old dog star chase the new cat star. -:o:- Thirst for literature reaches its superlative degree when a newspaper man buys a book he might have bor rowed. -:o: Would you like to know if any body ever saw the "certain party" being quoted so often in conversa tion and papers. :o: The voters should get posted on all matters to be vote on at the general election. Thy"have plenty of time to post themselves. -:o:- The reparations commission has gone to Berlin to confer with Chan cellor Wirth. Another economic con ference, we suppose. Democratic Chairman Hull says "Newberryism is the G. O. P. cam paign: issue." Maybe Newbersy has donated a million to the cause. 0:0 Deciding what not to print is the most troublesome part of newspaper work. Any editor can start a scan dal at any time if he is fearless. -:o: .That New York policeman who knocked a. cigarette from a woman's hand when he aw her smoking on Broadway evidently has an idea of his own about the .reputation and ethics of that thoroughfare. v PER TEAR IN ADVANCE Our only regret is that we have but one vacation to spend in our country. :o: We guess the oil industry Is still in Its infancy. Anyhow, It never has reached the stage where committees were organized to "beautify" the oil pools. to: Why is it when people see that politics is running away with the country they will stick to party lead ers when they know they are wrong? But they will do it. -:o: The senatorial primary issue in California seems to hinge on the question of whether Senator John son can be renominated with or in spite of Mr. Heart's support. :o: Somebody wants to put a moving picture machine in the halls of con gress. A Duzz saw wouia oe oeiier. wouldn't it, for-the statesmen to foolJ with instead of playing with the tar iff? :o:- Boldly the republican platform endorses the McKelvie code bill gov ernment. The democratic platform regards the code bill as largely re sponsible for our burden of taxation and tt is. -:o:- Great Britain announces that she is getting ready to hand over that 3 billion and some odd millions she owes the United States. Any "bud dy" can tell Uncle Sam what he ought to do with It. :o: "We dare you to drive faster than twelve miles an hour," says a sign in. -ill Illinois village. There are many towns where the condition of the streets makes the speed limit seem more of a dare than a prohibition. :o: Style is the only thing in this old world which could put a long skirt on a woman after she had been wear ing a short one. Style can lengthen their skirts, but by heck, it will take old man Time to lengthen their hair. -0:0 The Montana wool growers sold this season's clip at prices ranging above 40 cents a pound. But con gress is enacting a tariff law with a wool schedule based on the theory that the American wool grower must have protection. -:o:- Several Chicago women have been swindled by Ha "love healer," who specializes in making homes divorce proof. No home is divorce proof that isn't fool proof .and any home that admits love healers from the outside is a long way from being fool proof. :o:- Brewer Busch, who startled the country with his indignant charges of liquor sales on the American ship ping board vessels, has just returned from another trip to Europe. Mr. Busch, in spite of his prejudices, seems to enjoy Atlantic travel this summer. -:o: The one big issue of the campaign is the code bill. Those who believe in code bill government will vote'the republican ticket. Those who believe the code bill hard for the taxpayers of Nebraska will vote the democrat ic ticket. The democrats are pledged to its repeal. -:o:- Mark Twain's "Connecticut Yan kee" discovered way back in King Arthur's time that the best way to make a woman stop talking was to ask her her age. Many business wom en are not sensitive about their age now in this practical era. but you generally can stop most of them by asking to borrow S5.
