Galatians v, 13 -:o:- Another big sales day drawing near. :o: The corn crop in Cass county will be Immense. 0:0 The average man's idea of interior decoration is a square meal. -0:0- Some people read movie subtitles with their cut outs wide open. These are mad dog days. They may be mad over the price of bones. -:o: A woman doesn't have to be a good cook to roast her neighbors. -:o: Never count your chickens before they return from a friend's garden. :o: A cat may have nine lives, but wild cat still seem to have ninety nine. -:o: The old fashioned night shirt is coming back. Told you life is worth living -:o:- A man trying to show what he knows aften shows what he doesn't know. -:or- Lots of boys are made smart at the top by being made to smart at the bottom. -:o: "Ford i3 willing to run," says .a headline. Yes, that's the best thing about them. No wonder Germany is broke. She is trying to sell cotton stockings in this country. :o: The average life of a coin is 25 years. That's what it gets for trav eling bo fast. -:o:- St. Louis newsboys struck before they would wash their faces. This is vacation time. -:o: "Washington has a 400-day clock. They wind it every time they catch a senator awake. -:o: An agency finds married men make the best collectors. They know all the excuses. :o:- Jazz is popular because they can I play the same piece over and youi don't recognize. -rot- King George's new son-in-law has quit work; but George hasn't any more daughters left. :o: These Wall street men going back to the farm had better hide when' hog killing times come. :o: Wood wants more economy in rhilippine government. He can have ours; we don't use it. :o: The S50-pound shark killed by New York bathers may have been looking for Wall street. :o: Mars is leaving the earth at the rate of 10.000,000 miles an hour. One good look was enough. -:o: As a general thing, when a man mixes business with golf he turns in a bum score for one or the other. -:o:- A clergyman says it is all right for young people to kiss. Drat the man. He takes away half the fun of it. -:o:- President Harding Is in a posi tion to lead a very pretty strike of the American people against the coal and railrcnd tieups. :o Senator Lenroot is fighting the high tariff on wool, and he ought to get the enthusiastic support of ev erybody " who wears clothes. :o: Senator Reed left Kansas City Sat urday for Washington. Wonder if he will call on Ex-President Wilson and tell him "how it was done." :o: A Chicago man complains that his wife, for whom he paid $135. has run away. Next time he should pay a little more and get a guarantee. r- It 13 stated by market . experts that where one man loBes another must gain. No one has satisfactorily figured out a gain to anybody in con nection with the loss resulting from a prolonged strike. PER YEAR IN ADVANCE Ignorance is no bliss in the eyes of the law. :o:- The strike, it seems, is no nearer a settlement than a week ago. It ap pears to those on the outside that the proposition of "give and take" might result in a compromise. :o:- Considering that the senate is pop ularly supporcd to be worked to death on the tariff bill, it is surpris ing how much time senators find to devote to their political affairs. -:o:- The direct primary law has its faults, most of which are curable. But the clause which sets the elec tion on a hot day in August has nev er been attacked at sufficient length. -:o:- The amazing showing made by William Sacks of St. Loui3 has set the boys on the telegraph desk to speculating that if a man can draw that many Missouri votes on a light wine and beer platform, he ought to draw three times as much next time on a heavy wine and whisky plat form. A Wall street banker says that school children own the majority of Uncle Sam's $SS3,000.000 of "baby bonds" thrift bonds. It is probable that American children own enough of these bonds to wipe out the en tire national debt of Mexico. Financ ially, the children of our generation are extremely fortunate. Do you re member when a penny satisfied an eight-year-old boy, and a nickel look ed as big as a wagon wheel? Them days are gone forever. :o: WOMEN'S CLOTHES AND MEN'S Figures from the census some times disclose matters of real hu man interest. Thus the census of manufacturers of New York City show that the city, which is a great manufacturing center for clothing, produces women's clothing to twice the value of men's. Here are the fig ures: ' "Men's clothing. 4 SO million dol lars; furnishing goods, 50 million; hats and caps. 45 million; total, 575 million. "Women's clothing, S66 million dollars; corsets, 13 million dollars; furs, 132 million; millinery and lace goods, 162 million; total, 1,173 mil ion." Possibly New York centers on wo men's apparel rather than men's. But suppose the New York figures are representative of the nation's manufactures. Undoubtedly there are sour economists who would insist that women are extravagant, and that if they would reduce the ex penditure for clothing, after the fash ion of the men, they could have larg er savings accounts. But who would? LEGAL NOTICE To the unknown heirs, devisees, legatees, personal representatives and all other persons interested in the estate of John Chandler, deceas ed; Waterman, wife of Geo. S.
