riage of Rudolph Valentino, screen
actor and Miss Winifred Hudnut,
motion picture art director, which
was solemnized at Mexican, Mex.,
last Saturday is void in: California
and the bridegroom has made himself
jsubject to criminal process, accord
ing to judges of the supreme court
here. This condition i3 due to the
tact that Valentino obtained an in
terlocutory decree of divorce from
Jean Ackers, his first wife on Jan
uary 10, 1922, and that decree Will
hot become final until next January.
Valentino is still. married to Miss
Ackers and therefor cannot legally
contract another marriage in Cali
fornia "or anywhere else. Whether
Valentino would be disciplined by
the courts was not stated.
Judge Thomas O. Toland, who
granted the Valentino decree declin
ed to discuss the case today. Judge J.
W;. Summerfield, who is also engaged
in hearing divorce cases, consented
however, to explain the law. Judge
Summerfield said that the entry of
an interlocutory decree or aivorce
was nothing more than an order of
the court that, nothin ginterfereing,
the parties Would be entitled to a di
vorce after a year had elapsed. If
they attempted other marriage with
in that year, he said, the result was
bigamy.
