A TEACHING PROBLEM
The national government
makes
school
the discovery that many
teachers who left the schools in the
education. According to the federal
standards a man or woman to be
properly equipped for teaching
should have at least a normal schoo
educatlon. If the teaching is to be
i .hh o n- ,.i.-,
ity diploma should represent ade
quate training. In other words, the
training of the teacher ehould reach
considerable beyond the subject to
be taught.
Thousands of men and women who
were adequately trained to teach are
now barred from the schools, it has
been found. This is a result of the
war. when living costs increased
faster than teachers' salaries large
numbers of teachers who were well
equipped for their work were com
pelled to step out of the schools into
other positions.
Getting the schools back to nor-
Jlmal eeeras to be no small reconstruc
tion problem.

DANGER GREATER
THAN BEFORE
Paris, April 18. M.- Casenave for
mer French bigh commissioner In
the United States, commenting today
upon the Russo-German treaty, said:
The danger to western Europe is
even greater than before the war, be
cause the two eastern powers are
now together. The situation is as
formidable as it was at the signing
of the treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
"The western allied governments
are in the presence of a situation of
utmost significance, and one which
requires strong action.
"But what can Great Britain and
France do?" the correspondent ask
ed him, "send more documents?"
"Enough notes have been sent,"
M. Casenave replied. "They must
take some positive action. We now
see how important the occupation of
the left tank of the Rhine is, be
cause it is the barrier between east
ern and western Europe."
