Cj Wealth is created by .the hands and brain in the adaptation of the gifts of nature to human needs. Credit is based upon production and saving, both of which increase bank deposits. These bank deposits are used by the bank as u basis of credit. CJ It will take some time to create the wealth that was destroyed by the war. There is only one sure way to correct our financial ills, and that is to work and save. IBank of Union Checking Accounts Safety Deposit Boxes Loans, Exchange and Bonds UNION - - NEBRASKA U. I. July St. Lord N'orth cliffe, British publisher, arrived to day from New York on his tour of the world, and announced he was in Canada to look into the immigra tion problem. "They tell me." he said, "there are 10,000 men out of work in Tor onto, and that is a matter which in terests me becan.se we have millions of people at home proposing to emi grate." Lord Northeliffe and his party left tonight for Winnipeg. Store room delivery by freight car riers to offset competition of motor trucks, to relieve the jam at inade quate terminals, and give better serv ice to merchants is receiving much consideration in the east. The Dry Roods Economist -says of the discus sion: The idea is that instead of each individual concern sending its own trucks to the railroad freight station to obtain go. ids purchased by the con cern as consigned to it, or hiring a truck for that purpose, the- goods should be delivered to the store door by the railroad or by some agency working in connection with the rail road. A store delivery system would al so include the collection of cases and other packages which are to be ship ped by the railroad. For the sake of brevity, however, the system is unus ually referred to as store door deliv ery. Ruder the present method serious delays occur in the taking away of shipments frum the railroad freight nations. Such delays may arise from lapse of time between the arrival of the goods at the terminal -and the receipt by the owner of the railroad company's notice of the goods being at the station. Or delay may be due to laxity on the part of the owner or consignee. In the larger centers delays are the rule because of congestion at the freight station. This congestion is due. in part to the great number of trucks sent for goods arriving at a freight station. When each individ ual owner or consignee send his own truck for the goods or hires a truck man for the purpose seldom does the driver pick up a full load. Not infre quently the congestion is so great that trucks cannot reach the loading plat form. This condition is a serious one for the railroads as well as for dealers in merchandise. There is eveiy reason to believe that were a store door de livery system in force in all of the laiger centers the increase of rail road terminal facilities, regarded as essention under the present condi tions, would be found unnecessary. According to A. E. Reck, traffic manager of the Merchant's and Man ufacturers' association of Raltimore and a member of the t ran-.pn tation committee of the federal highway council, a store door collection sys tem was operated in Raltimore by the Philadelphia. Rait imore Al- Wash ington railroad and was continued by the Pennsylvania railroad after the first named railroad had become a part of the latter's system. In 1SS; the Raltimore i Ohio railroad es tablished a si miliar service in Ralti more and in Washington. Petitions alleging discrimination and Tiled with th interstate com mence commission by tuxizens locat ed just outside the Washington de livery limit were the primary cause of the withdrawal of the store door delivery service in that city. It was discontinued in Rait imore because the ommission ruled that if such strvice was rendered in the one city it must be continued in the other. The desire evinced for the service was proof of the efficacy of the sys tem; no question as to its merits was ever raised. At the time of the con troversy the store door delivery had gone far to offset the inadequacy of carrier's terminals in Raltimore and in Washington. WEEPING WATER IS VICTOR OVER EAGLE Exciting Contest at Eagle Results i. Victory For the Weeping Wa ter Team. Score 5 to 1 Thirsting for revenge for their previous tlefeat at Weeping Water by the score of to 0. the Weeping Water baseball team yesterday journ eyed out to Eagle and cleaned up or. that place by the score of T to 1 The contest, was largely a pitch er's battle between Rurgniaster and Trumble as the Weeping Water mound artist struck out ten while the Eagle star nicked seven of the visitors during the battle. Eel Grad oville of this city did the backstop ping for Weeping Water and Crab tree for the Eagle team. The game was largely attended and the utmost enthusiasm shown by both of the cities in their teams suc ccs.1. The Weeping Water team se cured three of their runs in the open ing inning. Earnest Trumble -secured a three bagger off of his appon ent which was the longest hit of the contest. This is one game apiece for the teams and the final game to settle the question of superiority will be one that will attract much atten tion as the two teams are both play ing good ball.
