POLLARD WOULD RAISE j LIMIT OF FARM LOANS Washington. July 14. K. M. Pol lard, of Nehawka. Nebraska, appear ed before the banking and currency committee of the house this after noon in support of the bill to raise the maximum of an individual loan under the farm loan act from $10,000 to $25,000. and also in favor of the Reavis bill to enable the discount of agricultural paper on twelve months time by federal reserve banks. The limit is now six months. .Mr. Pol lard said that both bills would ma terially alleviate the present great distress of the farmers in Nebraska. Chairman McFadden's questions indicate opposition to increasing the farm loan limit on the ground that then; were applications pending for several times the amount of money available and that the loans should le spread out as much as possible. Members of the committee appeared more favorable to increasing the time limit on agricultural paper redis count ed by the federal reserve banks. Eastern members suggested that the six months' paper could be and gen erally was renewed. Representative Reavis answered that the fear that it night not be renewed should be removed and rec ognition given the fact that the farmer had only an annual turnover of his goods. Advices from Major Fred Lemon, of Fort Crook, in charge of civilian training applications, are t the ef fect that upward of 4.000 have ap plied, while the allottment provided by congress for the 7th corps area is but 1,200. This means that but about one men in every three can go. although the towns and counties have been assigned quotas and the number of Plattsmouth applicants not relatively so great in excess of the local quota as in many com munities. In any event it is hichly probable the early applicants will be given preference, which again in dicates the wisdom of the old savin "The early bird catches the v.or: .." The camp will open August 1st and continue for thirty days and those fortunate enough to get to p will never regret it.
