K. with the exception of a few minor matters of carelessness on the part of one or two of our citizens. There were ad vised to get busy at once and clean up around their premises which will not only reduce fire danger but im prove the looks of the town as well Mr. .Trumble offered a worth-while suggestion along the line of fire pre vention, which was that a Ford chasis could easily be converted in to a fire wagon, on which could be mounted a chemical engine and then in case of a fire one man could soon get the apparatus to the scene of the fire. Judging from the looks of it. we. would quite agree as to it being- a distant relative of the illustrious whale. In fact so dis tant that it could scarcely be seen a mile away with the naked eye. The fineness of this fish is one of its chief recommendations for it certain ly couldn't qualify in a size contest, so small is it. jobs on looking a nd al II. Loses Chickens and Butter Last week, while J. J. Gustin was busy at the stock yards in Murdock, loading cattle for shipment to Om aha, some miscreants went to his farm home a few miles from town and appropriated two dozen chick ens of the Rhode Island Red variety. They also attempted to get away with his auto and did take some six or eight pounds of butter that had been placed in the car to take to town. The maurauders had left their Ford at the Callihan church and carried the chickens and butter to the car there. Alva Bornemeier also had a tire stolen from his car at the church as well as did H. H. Dehning at the same time and Robert Stock lost an overcoat. These acts of petty thiev ery afford sufficient provocation for the securing of a gun loaded to the muzzle with good old fashioned buck shut. This is about the only suc cessful way to stop it. The only clue to any of the depredations commit ted in the vicinity lies in the fact that recently some one brought four dozen chickens and a can of cream to the cream station, failing to call for the cream can when it had been emptied. t, NOTICE I. 0. 0.
