Charles Hemphill, who has been employed in the Sheldon factory for some time, has been compelled to lap off work lately on account of an at tack of asthma, with which he is af flicted and which is aggravated by the painting work in which he been engaged. Sturm arrived in Nehawka from his work as a mem ber of the state legislature, on Tues day noon, being called here to look after his business on account of the illness of Henry F. Kropp. who has been confined to his home for the past week. Mr. Sturm remained sev eral days. F. II. Cunningham has been em ployed for some time by K. M. Bol lard, overhauling some cars, trucks land tractors for Mr. Bollard and also getting the sprayers in condition tor the spring work of spraying the large apple orchards which Mr. Bol lard ownes near Nehawka. Mr. Bol lard is an expert when it comes to nr-oner cultivation and spraying of growing fruits and is especially in terested in the culture of the apple. Some Change in the W. C. A white finish greatly improves the light and adds to the appearance. Mr. Lund berg will remove the free air and water stand to the rear of the stor age room. Doing Some Good Work Nicholas Opp has been looking af ter t lie roads leading into Nehawka fallowing the recent rain which left them rough and uneven, and now has them in first class condition for travel. Good roads are something that command more and more at tention each year. Injured ir. Runaway Last Tuesday evening while work ing about his farm on the O street road, west c-f Nehawka. John Rehrns sustained serious injuries when his team of fractious mules ran away, knocking him down and running over him. Mr. Behrns was badly bruised from beiim trampled by the animals as well as from the watron wheels parsing over him. Mrs. Behrns immediately got out the car and brought her husband to town, where Ir. Thomas dressed his wounds. 'Examinat ion failed to re veal any broken bones as was at first expected, although the left leg was verv badlv bruised.' Shrader of the marriage of the dpughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Nul rey. Miss Doris Jane, of Broken Bow, ,o Mr. Floyd LeRoy Robinson. The nuptials occurred on March 8th. Mr. Robinson had relatives living in Ne hawka a few years ago, and was him self a frequent visitor here. Announ cement has also been received of the coming marriage of Miss Anna Cox. of Lebanon. Kansas, and who is a granddaughter of William Barnes, a former resident here. Visiting in the West Last Saturday afternoon. Mrs. D. C. West left for Denver, where she will meet her brother, C. S. It is told of John that he has taken a curry comb from his stock at the store and gives the porkers a dress ing down every day, and that the hairy coat of the mother and little piglets shines and glistens like silk. This will be a real demonstration as to whether there is money in raising hogs or not. . St. John, in honor of their friend. Mrs. John Frans. who until last week was Miss Lena Klaur ens. A large number of young lady friends of the bride were present to enjoy this sociable event; and extend congratulations and best wishes to the bride. Music and games formed a part of the afternoon's entertain ment, followed by a most delightful luncheon. Neither can they go on the proposition of all work and no play. One of their members, John O. Yeiser. Jr., was hailed before the august assemblage a few days ago. charged with hav ing left the state while on duty, as well as having abducted Miss Ger trude Sturm, daughter of Senator and Mrs. A. F. Sturm, to whom he was married while outside the con fines of his native state, the wedding having' taken place on the high hill overlooking Council Bluffs, where it is said President Lincoln stood and viewed the then thriving villages of Council Bluffs and Omaha, while on a trip there to adjust some business with the Union Pacific, which was being built with government aid. The bewildered groom pleaded that after the wedding and attendant trip he was broke and ask that the state provide him with counsel, whereupon an attorney was appointed who ad vised him to plead guilty, which he 'promptly did.
