This Morning the Mercury Pointed to
Five Above Zero and Indications
Strong For Further Drop.
When the Plattsmouth citizens
awoke this morning it was to find
that the first real winter morning of
the season was with them and the
mercury standing at five above the
i.ero mark. While this will be con
sidered mild weather alter in the
season, after the mild fail weather
we have had it was certainly hard
to take and the greater part of the
population that could do so, spent
the day hanging close to the s'.oves
and radiators rather than face the
frosty morning and the snap of the
winter weather.
The indications for the next few
days as given out by the weather
bureau are for continued cold weath
er this part of the west and the com
mencement of the winter weather.
However we have no kick coming
as this fall and the opening part
of the winter has been all that any
one could ask for at this time of the
year.

don't find junky stuff there
and it's a safe place to trade.
NOTE We not only are NOT
taking long profits, but are

ing to Peculiar Wounds.
The death of John Carter, former
ly of Weeping Water, which occurred
at Haxton. Colorado, last Thursday,
is to be investigated, according to
reports received in this city.
The peculiar nature of the wounds
on the head of Mr. Carter is causing
the authorities there to look into the
"ase more closely and it may develop
that the unfortunate man was th'
victim of a murderous attack.
On the chin of Mr. Carter as wel"
as between the eyes were wound
that may have ben caused by a blow
of some severe nature and from the
indications was nqt of the nature
that would be caused by a Icicle from
a horse or from being trampled by
cattle as was first supposed by the
members of the family and the au
thorities. The body cf Mr. Carter
was not injured in the least ;.s would
have undoubtedly have been the ens"

and this circumstance was what set
the authorities moving in the mat

Accordingto Cole's theory. Cram

drove out on a lonely road, killed
Mrs. Vogt himself, drove back home,
placed Cole in the front seat at the

Crammer went home and no one

Cole did not know what happeneu

Cole protested his innocence in a
last statement which he gave to two

I To his attorney, John M. Priest.

murder, and this was to be used in
the event of a new trial.
In private conversation Cole ad

commit the crime, and although he

Grammer had the "drop" on him,

forgeries Cole had committed and
threatening to reveal them unless
Cole acceded to his demand.
