MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1920. PAGE FOUB. PLATTSMOUTH SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL t . Cbe plattsmouth loumal PUBLISHED SEMI-WEEKLY AT PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA Entered' at PostofTice. Plattsmouth. Neb:, as second-class mail matter R. A. BATES, Publisher SUBSCRIPTION PRICE $2.00 PER YEAR IN ADVANCE Harding kneels at Borah's feet. :o: There may yet be a bis bolt in the republican ranks. :o: Harding's swing around the circle shows that the republicans are con siderably scared. :o:- The gambler bribed Chicago play ers to iose games. Did they also bribe Cincinnati players to win games. :o: The friends of Mr. Wray are hust ling and claim he will be the next governor of Nebraska. Now, how about Mr. McKelvie? :o: There's one satisfactory thing about the news from those Irish towns where riots have occurred. You can pronounce the names. ( o:o A Washington dispatch announces, "a job for every man if he can find it." And always providing in addi tion that he wants to find it. :o: Ex-Governor Morehead is highly elated over the looks of democratic success even in Nebraska, and he has been pretty well over the state. :o: It is probably unnecessary to ex plain that the druggist who displayed a sign, "say it with a brick." in his window, was referring to ice cream. :o: Yes. Flossie, it does make one feel foolish to pay $5 a pair for silk stock ings, and go back to the same store th next day and find them selling for $3. o : o Kvery mother who has a son should vote for the league of nations, which prevents war ever hereafter. No mother cares to have her son or sons go to war. :o: The Coal Review says that the in dustry may well become alarmed, thus making it unanimous, as the nnsumers became alarmed several months ago. :o: Once upon a time there was a bootblack in a barber shop who would shine the back of your shoes as well as the front but that is another one of these fairy stories. : It ros- China $100,000 to entertain the visiting congressmen from this country. We ought to pay it back. Just think how much we saved by having them away from home. :o: Britain probably will find that the trouble with sending an ultimatum to Russia is that the Bolsheviki seem to think an ultimatum is an invita tion to restate their views at even greater length. :o: Kggs cost too much nowadays. The hens s.eem to think that because they are moulting, and getting all doited up for another season, that the wo men are able to pay any price that may be charged. :o: Have you ever noticed, that a wo man who has purchased a new sweat er, a new coat is more sensitive to the cold than the woman who has to wear her old one? :o: The strangest thing is the way in which the common consumer refuses to cheer ud. in spite of the fact that there have been rather notable reductions in the prices or several motor cars and cabbages. : o: If ihpro was anav nolitieal signifi cance at all in the world champion- shtD nan came at uroomyn yesieruay it is that the next president will come from Ohio. There is no other explanation for it. politically speak ing. ;o: Thp delichted consumer, having read in the paper that Hi Price had finally made his grand high dive, hur ried out to the store to find that Hi really hadn't dived yet, but merely had indicated his purpose by tossing down his hat. :o: President Ban Johnson wants Con gress to investigate the baseball scan dal. Aw, rats! Congress can't even rolve the small problems of running this government. It would be utter ly helpless in dealing with an import ant subject like baseball. Mexico is paying rather high to keep Villa out of war. :o: An. eminent geologist says New York was once covered with water and it is still quite wet. :o: It may be unkind to say so, but it looks to us like Mayor McSweney's head if emptier than his stomach. :o: There must be something mentally urnn? with the man who wears a derby hat twelve month's in the year. :o: By this time, of course, you have those repairs made on the furnace, which you forget during the summer while it wasn't working. :o: "The world." sys Ambassador Geddes. "is watching dry America." H'o ir.Yi in cr vn O m i fh t R3V With 3. bot tle' in one hand and a glass in the other. :o: A some neonle bore the burden of the price increases, so some other people will have to bear the burden of the price reductions. mere were wick when nriees went tin and there are other kicks when prices, go down, but the first didn't stop the move ment nor is it likely that the second will. :o:- Senator Borah said on the senate floor- "If Jesus Christ should come on the senate floor and advocate the league of nations, I would still be against it." And this is the man to whom Harding kneels, and announces himself entirely in accord. What do religious people think of such as as sertion? And of Harding, for cater ing to him. :o: Th demand for unskilled labor is secondary in importance to the de mand for a pure and strong America. Any contractor coming forward with a demand for the admission of un desirables solely because he can ex ploit their muscle should be branded as an enemy of the state. pubIjcjale!
