This is Some Ear of Corn.
(J rover I-auristen brought in an
e-ir of yellow dent corn which he
had raised. tha measured some four
teen and a half inches in length and
weighed over two pounds. This is
some corn and also a high quality as
the ear is perfectly formed with
deep, well formed grains, and of this
kind if would not require many ears
to make a bushel.

WEEPING WATER
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Jacobs of St.
foe. Mo., were week end visitors at
'he home of Mrs. Jacobs uncle Oeo.
Stoner. They drove to Omaha Sunday
taking Mr. and Mrs. Stoner with
them and left Monday ni -rning for
their home.
Mrs. S. (i. Coglizer and Mrs. I. N.
Hunter returned last Thursday eve
ning from a seven weeks visi' at their
old home at Scranton, Pa. They en
joyed a fine visit and met many old
friends and relatives'." They attend
ed a family picnic which is an an
nual affair and held during the
month of August, where 2T0 rela
tives were present.
The stories we hear on every hand
about the bumper corn crop are sure
encouraging. Two good ears to a
stalk are much in evidence. C. M.
Cherry brought to this office a cou
ple of dandy well matured ears from
one stalk and stated that in picking
a bushel from his field he ran across
lf stalks with two ears on.
A popular young couple went to
Nebraska City anil slipped one over
on their friends and relatives by be
ing quietly married. Sept. 25. They
were .Miss Josephine Freisel of
Weeping Water and Raymond Cream
er of Murray. They will be at home
to their friends on a farm east of
Murray where the groom has pre
pared a home for his helpmate.
Charley Shell who was a former
citizen of this community died Sat
urday. September 25, at his home at
Papiilion at the ripe old age of 82
years. Those from here who attend
ed the funeral at Papiilion Monday,
were Mrs. Frank Cappen, her
daughters Miss Lillian, Mrs. Ben
Hostetter and William Hamilton,
who were relatives of deceased.
Carl Aukerson, our baker, met with
a painful accident Saturday which
will lay him up for some time as he
sustained a badly sprained and pos
sibly a fractured wrist and a bruised
foot when he Jumped from his auto as
it was going over an 8 foot bank.
Carl had run the car into the yard
at his home to apply some paint and
when he started out a clothesline
caught him under the chin and pre
vented him from reaching forward
to apply the emergency break. The
car took the advantage of the oppor
tunity to go over the bank and land
ed none the worse for the descent
but Carl not knowing that the crit
ter would land safely, made a jump
for safety, but was caught under the
wheels of the car with the above result.
