HAS A REAL INDIAN PIPE OF PEACE John Cory of This City Has Gift of a Genuine Indian Peace Tire Made bv Omaha Chief. From Thursday's Daily. A few days ago John Cory, propri etor of the Perkins hotel, received a present from his son-in-law, M. H. Hrantner of Pender, of a real Indian peace pipe that is one of the finest pieces of work of its kind in the 5t:M' and every bit of which was the worh of Hie leaders cf the Omaha tribe which is now located on tire reserva tion near Pender. The pipe is a beauty and its age is estimated at seventy-live years as far as can be ascertained from the stories of the Indians who have been familiar with the history of the Oi.;r ha tribe. The pipe was the handwork I Chief Little P.ow Walker, one of the leaders of the Omahans and shoe's careful construction and mtteh care. The howl is of red pipest:me and beautifully modeled while the sUm is from a wood handed down from several generations of Indians tor the express use of making the trsbnl pipes of peace. The pipe is trimr.iol with streamers and beaded work a;;i makes a beautiful piece of art work of the original American. With the pipe goes the pouch, that is the work of the wife of Chief Little How. and the buckskin of the pouch is a ma.,' of the vari-colored heads that are so hichly prized by the Indians and one of the best pieces of work ot its kind t'aat can be found in this portirm of the west. Roth the pipe and pouch have long been in the possession of the family of Little Row and came to Mr. Bront ner from Frank Scott, one of the de pendents of relatives of the greit Omaha chief. The value of the pipe and pouch cannoi be estimated as the work is much better than any that can i- secured now owing t'i Use lack of beads of the proper make a .id t he owner has several times re fi'.fcd large sums for the pipe.
