The high power line of the Nebraska Gas & Electric company between this city and Louisville went out of com mission this morning about two o'clock as the result of the burning out of the line and for several hours forty-seven towns were without light or power as the result of the venture of the owl. The owl alighting on the wires caused the current to flush' over and burn out the lines an( while the bird was executed by the Juice it did a great deal of damage to the property of the light company as well as causing much inconven ience to the patrons of the company in this part of the county as well as in theh western Iowa lines. Manager Kuykendall also reports that in the western part of the city a number of boys have been engaged in shooting off the insolators of the lines and causing much annoyance to the company' and if any more cases of this kind are reported the lads will be prosecuted. CONTEST IS FAST DRAWING TO A CLOSE Who Will be the Successful Candi dates for Queen and Prince of Coronation Carnival. The contest that has been running for the past week as a part of the Hargains Circus, and which has as its object the naming of the most popular lady and gentleman, who are to serve as queen and prince of the Coronation carnival tomorrow evening, is fast drawing to a close. This contest will close this evening at 10 o'clock ami the final count of votes made at that time, while the awards to the winner will be made at the big carnival ball Thursday evening, which is to be staged on the platform at Fifth and Main streets under the auspices of the American Legion. The merchants, of the city have contributed a number of very valu able prizes that will go to the suc cessful winners of the big events.
