The occasion was one that will long be remember ed by Clyde and he greatly enjoyed the experience in traveling: with the leader of the army. Mr. Kaufmann enlisted in the regular army Jan ary 1017 and was assigned to the coast artillery and stationed at San Franeieo for a greater part of the time but since the close of the war has been at Camp Lewis, lie is ex- member of the military forces of the United States and who has for , pecting to return to California as several months been stationed at Camp Lewis, Wash., had the distinc tion of being the driver of the auto assigned to General John J. Persh ing during his stay at Camp Lewis. Clyde, who is now serving in the motor transport corps of the army was selected by the general com manding the post at Camp Lewis to accompany him to Tacoma, Wash., where they met the party of distin guished army officers headed by the late chief of the A. E. F. and who were to pay a visit of inspection to the Washington cantonment.
