King Albeit is a brave man, but his American itinerary doesn't in clude Mexico. :o: The profiteer is not mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount but he must be blessed, for he inherits the earth. :o: The high price and scarcity of "flu medicine" in quart doses this fall may be the reason why the threatened epidemic hasn't material ized. :o: If the government ever rules that no cigar containing more than 2.75 per cent tobacco be sold the aver age ten-center won't be affected in the least. :n: Another sure sign of approaching winter is the gentle odor of anti freeze compound on the breeze, that perfume so exquisite to the motorist and so infuriating to the pedestrian :o: It is whispered in New York that if you wear a pink tie. you can bu a drink. The risk, however is too great. After doning the pink tie. something might happen to prevent getting the drink. :o: It is possible prohibition' has nrougni a numner oi blessings we hadn't thought of. Berlin dispatch es say Prussians are shocked and horrified when told that we can get nothing but water to drink in the I'nitde State. Perhaps, then, they won't emigrate. :o: Kverybody has heard his preach er start in praying for the local of ficers of the church and wind up with a prayer for the president of 'the United States, making all stop: between. So Rev. Lieut. Maynard is not the first pastor by any means to complete a cross country flight. :o: The psalmist said in his haste. "All men are liars." Dr. H. II. Cod dard of Toledo. Ohio, wishes now to corroborate that statement as "scientific conclusion." And while David admitted he spoke in the heat of the moment. Dr. Goddard now has the income tax revelations to support his conclusions. :o: Kditors will never cease having their troubles. One of those men who presides over the destinies of Wyoming newspaper is mourning the loss of a pair of subscribers over a pair of twins. One of them wrote asking how to raise twins safely, while the other wanted to know how to rid his orchard of grasshoppers. llolh answers went forward by mail, but. by accident, the editor got the envelopes transposed and placed each answer in the wrong enclosure, .so the man with thft twins received the reply: "Cover them carefully with straw and set fire to it and the , little pests, after jumping into the lire for a tew minutes, will bejfpeed ily srttld." And the man with the grasshoppers was told to "give them castor oil, and rub their gums with a bone." rami, we are told, can move mountains, but not with moving vans costing ten dollars an hour. :o: A labor union that refuses to al low a man to work when he wants to and when he is satisfied is not a good thing for the laborer nor for the country. :o: An Ohio clergyman says the needs of this rapid age demands that ser mons be cut to fifteen minutes. But there are some in every congrega tion who couldn't even get to sleep in that time. :o: While it is doubtless that our in come tax law tempts many men to dishonesty, it probably is needless to repeal it just on that account, as prohibition didn't cure all evils at once, as we thought it would, either. :o: A lawsuit sixty-three years old has just been decided in Illinois. The courts of t;iat state are to be commended for thus joining so promptly and effectively in the hope ful movement to expedite justice in this country. world, then imported the "paupers" of the old world to make our goods. That policy h"as turned New England to a New Europe a new Italy, new Ireland, new everything but Amer ica. Now that these aliens are here by our own invitation, our own econom ic policy, shall we treat them as we treat tlies caught in a trap It. t'uwrn. deeea-ed : the unknown ht-in A North Carolina bishop say; "America" should not be sung in church, as all hymns used in ser vice should be addressed only to Al mighty God. The bishop, we fear. is not familiar with the last stanza ot America. RENDING THE ALIEN sway. Iliey should make the choice of becoming Americans or returning whence they came. If they cannot be satisfied to abide by American IVlitical methods of righting the wrongs and choose the bomb and the mob instead, they should be shipped hence whether or no. I'm to generate a general hostility to these immigrants, the good with the bad. and to awaken radical pre judices against them as we now tend to do would be a breach of faith " which America cannot afford to b guilty. State Journal. P. INVESTMENTS V Public Service Corporation Paying , II Can be had in amount of $100 PAUL FITZGERALD, Investment Securities First National Bank Bid', Omaha, Neb. i In recent weeks a sort of anti- alien propaganda has been under war in America. The steel compan ies have sought to discredit the late strike in the steel industry by saying that it was participated in mostly 'v the ignorant loreign part o: their employes. At the same time. there is a cheerful willingness on the part of labor organizations to see the alien discredited and barred. This tends to limit the competition for jobs. Those who are most in fear of the "reds" contribute their hare to the general hostility to the alien. Our bolshevism, we are told and it is probably true is con fined largely to aliens or to recent aliens. This combination of hostilities to aliens is growing into a sort of cru- ade. Apparently we are on the erne of an "America for Americans" movement. Antipathy to the alien h?.s been promoted to such a degree that bloodshed is threatened in some sections. Heaven knows, America needs Americanization. We find ourselves after the war no less than before with the problem of the hyphen on our hands. Nor is the problem lim ited to any one race or nationality. The American stomach is full of un digested populations. We should be chary of further increments of this sort till we have had time to devise? safe and effective methods of as simulating what we already have. But the change of policy should be rational and fair. To turn in fierce hostility upon the aliens among 113 now would be most unjust. We should be punishing them for our own fault.
