League Honors Were Tied
for First Place.
Before a large and very enthus
iastic crowd of fans yesterday after
noon at the Red Sox park the pencil
pushers of the storehouse, playeJ
havoc with the Rip Track base ball
aggregation in the deciding game
for tho championship of the IJur
lington shop league and for the
silver cup that the merchants of the
city have donated to the victors in
the league. The tinal score of the
battle which toward the last degen
erated into a swatfest for the store
house. wa 15 to T. The game up'
to the seventh inning was a very
exciting one as the teams were keep
ing right after the cup but in the
fateful seventh the balloon made a
rapid and complete ascension and
took with it almost the entire rip
track team and by the time they
had settled down the dirty work
was done and the silver cup gone
glimmering to the storehouse play
ers. Considerable rag chewing mark
ed the game over the decisions of
the umpire and in the third inning
the peace and harmony of the game
was threatened when Christie, um
piring at the plate called Dalton of
the storehouse team out for interfer
ing with Hobby Neumann at the
third sack. 15ase I'mpire Cunning
ham did not see the interference
and it was called by Christie and
this led to considerable side line
eloquence from the various players
and their friends who rushed out ti
horn in on the argument. However
the decision stood and the player
was called out.
In the opening of the first the
storehouse team grabbed .(T two
runs to show that they wre still in
the pennant race. Martin and
Dalton both secured safety at first
on bobbles by Finder and when Jack
Davis hit the pill through the hn
came through with the needed runs.
In the third session of the game
both sides scored. Maurer of the Kip
Track beat out the third strike to
first and was followed by Payne
with a hot drive to right which
scored "Euge" and Payne later
scored when Dalton threw to third
and Red Neumann faib d to get his
hooks on the ball. For the store
house McCarthy who was walked by
Neitzel and scored on the throw in
from the fly of Red to center Held.
Ault returned the ball to Hobby at
third to retire Dalton ami here oc
curred the verbal warfare between
the umpires and the storehouse team
but resulted in Dalton being declar
ed out for attempting to stop
Hobby from throwing the ball.
The fifth inning again saw the
storehouse get the lead in the
battle for the flag. Red with his
trusty stick tipped the beans .by a
safe blow to center garden and when
Dickey with a two base rap to left
that Payne could not get. brought in
Red; Hons Neumann added to the
grief of the rip track team by his
safe hit to right that brought in
Dickey.
The sixth inning proved pretty
soft for tho rip trackers and
cheered the hearts of the followers
of Manager Anil's colts, when an
other run was added to their list.
Marshall was safe on a bobble by
Davis at first and later scored when
Hobby placed a safe one to center.
The fateful seventh was a tale too
sad to relate as the heretofore
snappy aud exciting game was turn
ed into a foot race around the bases
by the storehouse team and l-Yn-wick.

hits that meant scores for the store
house team. Dalton opened for the
storehouse with a safe hit to center;
Davis was safe on a juggled ball by
Maurer at short; Red was safe when
his hit to right field was dropped
and on this Daltou scored; Dickey
hit safe and Davis registered; Hons
Neuman hit to center field and
brought in Red; Hudgins was safe
when Maurer failed to handle his
grounder and Dickey came home on
the play; Martin was . walked; Ji
rousek made the first out for the
storehouse by striking out; Mc
Carthy hit ta(e to center scoring
Hons. Dalton coming to bat for the
second, time hit to third base and
Hudgins was forced out at home. ,
Davis with a two bagger to left j
garden brought in McCarthy aud
Martin; Red then added to the ex
citement with a two sacker that
brought in Dal'on and Davis. Dickey
with a safe single to left scored Red
but he was himself retired while
trying for a s'eal of third base.
In the eighth the Rip Trackers
came back but not sror.g enough to
overcome the bad of their oppo
nents. Winscott was hit by the
pitcher; and advanced when Fen
wick secured a two sacker to right;
Hobby was psed to lir.st; Ault hit
sate to renter scoring Winscott:
Maurer with a hit through short
scored Fen wick and Hobby and
Ault later scored by a wild pitch.
This clased the story of the game.
For the storehouse team Joe Mc
Carthy threw an excellent game and
was in the box for the entire game
holding his opponents safe at the
critical Ktages of the battle.
