Murray. In one place the drillers

ed the shaft as a failure. Starting
a new drive a few feet from this

Mr. and Mrs. lien Wiles were
Platt.-mouth visitors last Saturday
evening, and while there Mr. Wiles
found time to call at the Journal of
fice for a brief visit. Hen tells ns
that he is goinsr to harvest a
mighty fine wheat cmp this season,
and expected to start the job this
week.
. Ludwig Hollis. late of Platts
mouth. is a new man in Murray,
and his smiling good natured fr.ee
may be seen behind the counter of
the Murray State Lank in the fu

assistant cashier. LuiJwig is an ex
cellent young man, w-ith some hank

in a Lincoln bank for the past few
months, and will make a very val

eker. Mrs. G. 11. Gilmore is in- receipt
of a message from the Doctor stat
ing that he was just about ready to
sUTt for borne, and that before she
would receive the message he ex
pected to be off French soil, and on
the big waters, sailing for home.
This was mighty good news to Mrs.
Gilmore and family as well as to
the many friends of the Hector in
Cass county, who will be more
than pleased to welcome him home.
He will no doubt be home some time
this month.
Minford & Creamer shipped a car
of hogs to the South Omaha market
Monday evening.

mother. Mrs. W. A. P.rown. iu Mur
ray. Tuesday at one o'clock. Rev.
Jeckson. of Omaha, came down and
performed the ceremony. The bride
is' too well known in and near Mur
ray for the Journal to comment, on
the many good qualities of this ex
cellent lady. She was born and
reared here and has always been a
favorite among her many friends.
The groom is a well-to-do farmer
and for many years a resident of
Otoe county. The Journal joins with
the many friends in extending
hearty congratulations. They de
parted Tuesday afterjumn for Este.s
Park. Colo., where they have rented
a cottage and will spend the summer.

This afternoon Mrs. H. D. Travis
and daughter Mrs. A. G. Cole and
little son departed for the west,
where they will visit at the home of
Raymond Travis and family for a
month or so. Mr. Travis who has
made his home In Omaha until
quite recently has been sent to Den
ver, where the company are opening
a branch office and Mr. Travis has
been selected as the manager there
of. Mrs. Travis and Mrs. Cole will
make a prolonged stay iu the west
hoping that the change may be
beneficial to Mrs. Travis health,
which has not been the best for
some time past.
CHICAGO FIREMEN ACCEPT
INCREASE VOTED BY COUNCIL
Chicago, July 1. Strike troubles

duced when approximately half the
firemen voted to accept the $300 a
year increase granted by the city
council and 800 city hall clerical
