The exercises was began by the singing of America, which was sang with vim and vigor of an American crowd of school boys and girls. Then followed an address on Abraham Lincoln by Rev. H. G. McCluskey, which portrayed .the character of this excellent American if a word picture which will never be forgotten by his hearers. Then followed a number of songs by Mrs. E. H. AYeseott and Mrs. Mae Morgan, which breather Loyalty and Patriotism in every sentence. Fol lowing this was a tribute to the boys at the front from this city and the high school, this by Mr. E. H. Wescott, and was one of the finest addresses which has been made in this or any other city for many a day. Being in personal touch with the boys who have left from Platts mouth his heart was filled with the associations and placed him in posi tion to express with fervor, and earnestness the thoughts which well up in his being. Then came the presentation of the service flag, by the girls club, the presentation being made by Miss Eleanor P.urnie. the president and the unveiling done while the club sang the added stanza to 'America'. "God Bless Our Xoble Men. Bring Them Safe Home Again." The pre sentation of this flag which contain ed forty-eight stars representing forty-eight members of the Platts mouth High School who had gone to the front, was answered and accepted by the Board of Education by their member T. H. Pollock. Mr. Pollock expressed his thank fulness for the patriotic impulses in the club of high school girls, who had prepared this token of their loy alty and patriotism. The occasion was one of much shown interest in the welfare of those who has been here for a while and in the ever shifting scenes of this varying life have caught in the vortex, of sentiment, necessity, pat riotism, and love of liberty, and car ried to the almost ends of the earth. His Mission is One of Teaching and Being Taught The Plan is Not a New One. From Wednesday's Dally. The original conception of the County Agent, that of an "expert ag riculturist" is an erroneous one, for were it possible to combine all the qualities which this conception would require, the person would be worth more than the counties would feel they could afford, in some other avocation. True when one is thus qualified, and when one Is a worker and thinker, the worth to the coun ty is worth as much as could be ob tained in other lines. For it has been proven that in a county in this state that the county agent has proven the plan adopted has benefit ted the county to the extent of $50. 000 during one year. The idea is to demonstrate established agricultural facts that are of value to the com munity but not of general practice. To make available to the people of the country the results of agricul tural experiments and to assist in determining the application of these principles to local . conditions. To search for the best there is in farm practice of the best farmers of the county, and to give the widest poss ible publicity to their work. To study farming in all its relations and assist in the establishment of a system of farm management that is most profitable and consistent with a permanent agriculture. To be interested in and to render such as sistance as is consist nt with his pre scribed duties to nil work under taken in the county for the improve ment of farming or the advance ment of rural life. To develop and inspire high ccirmnnity ideals, to stimulate co-operation, and to help the rural peep! - in their organized capacity through the farm bureau. and all other local organizations, to make farming an attractive business and country life satisfying to man. woman and child. As a teacber teaches rather bv demonst rat io::s. ; nd in carrying out these he works rather with the in dividual, but the real purpose is to reach the community and thus bene fit all. The necessity for the demonstra tion ends only when the community have adopted the practice. This is illustrated in the matter of the oat smut and seed corn demonstrations. In many counties having had agents three years there no longer evist n necessity for further demonstrations, for either of these. In some place where the sanitary precautions ti prevent and stamp out hog cholera has been such that it is no longer necessary to persue a demonstration on this subject. MRS. A. G. ROMAN IMPROVING. From Wednesday's Dailv. Notwithstanding the weakened condition and the severity of the operation which Mrs. A. G. Roman has been compelled to undergo, she is shownig some recuperative strength and it is hoped the improve ment which is slight now, will con tinue and that she will be growing stronger as the days pass. THE JUNIOR RED CROSS WORK. From Tuesday's Daily. The Junior Red Cross is being brought prominently before the school at this time in the drive which is to continue until Washing ton's Birthday and to culminate on that day with a chapter in every school, and every member included in the membership and workers. There are 98 schools in this county and Miss Alpha Petersen is pushing the work of the organization, which means all of the scholars in the county members. Each school, is to be a branch, with the membership comprising the school. It is a mat ter of choice with the school how the raise the 25 cents per member, by each one paying it separately or by the school hold box suppers or entertainments for the purpose as they like. It is expected the 25 cents per member for each and very school. Bsides this there is work. 'such jis the child can do, like knitting of such work, which will be furnished after the county is organized and on a working basis. When baby suffers with eczema or some itching, skin trouble, use Doan's Ointment. A little of it goes a long way and it is safe for children. COc a bos at all stores. INTERMEDIATE SOCIETY ROYALLY ENTERTAINED REV. McCLUSKEY AND WIFE ARE HOSTS TO YOUNG PEOPLE AT THE MANSE. Games and Merriment Indulged In by All Refreshments Served Before Guests Depart. From Wednesday's Dallr. The members of the Intermediate Society of Christian Endeavor, were pleasantly entertained by the Pastor and his wife at the Presbyterian Manse last evening. From the mo ment of their entrance into the house, the young folks found some thing had been planned for their pleasure. When the entire crowd had assembled, which well filled the house, they were seated at tables and indulged in the main game of the evening, that of progressive hearts. This they found to be most fascinat ing, and it was with difficulty that the hostess was able to call the game to a close. But the lateness of the hour compelled her to do so. Miss Helen Roberts was found to have won the most number of games, fo; which she was privileged to contri bute a musical selection, for tin benefit of the oth?rs. Delicious re freshments were served, after which the young people further indulged in music and a contest game of throw ing hearts, the old horse-shoe game, made aonrnpriate for the season. As the young people were leaving, all were verv exner-sive of their delight in the evening's moments so wel filled with pleasure. The folks c! the manse hope it will not be long until their home may again ring with the cheer of such pleasant young peo pie.
