Partrige, of Weeping Water, one of the road overseers of the county, was in the city today, look ing after some matters with the board of county commissioners. Henry lleebner, of Murray, came up this morning and took the spec ial for Lincoln, where he will attend the state fair before he returns to his work, at the elevator at Cedar Creek. Mrs. Albert Queen and daughter, Miss Pearl Dougy, were passengers to Omaha this afternoon, where Miss Pearle will enter the Van Sant busi ness college, and take a business course. Miss Lenora Snyder who has been visiting at the L. C. Todd . home near Nehawka for the past few days, being the guests of the Misses Julia and Jessie Todd, returned home last evening. Fred Spencer, of Weeping Water road overseer of a district adjacent to that city, was a visitor in tin city today, where he was looking after some business with the count v commissioners. John Hirz and wife, and Fred Hiiv. and family, departed early thh morning with Mr. John liirzs car for Lincoln, where the-v will attend the state fair for the day, returning home this evening. T. E. Hathaway, from near I'nion. was a business visitor in Platts mouth today, and in conversation with the reporter, said he would with his family go in hi car to at tend the state fair at Lincoln to morrow. C. II. Warner will take his fam ily in his ear and tomorrow morn ing depart for the state fair, at Lin coln, where they will spend the day eating their dinner on the grounds, and will return home after the fair in the evening. L. C. Todd and wife and daugh ters. Misses Julia and Jessie of Xe hawka, motored to this city yester day afternoon for a short visit with friends and to attend to some busi ness matters. Mr. Todd was a pleas ant caller at this office. R. J. Haynie and wife were pass engers to Lincoln this morning where they will attend the state fair today and tomorrow will at tend the meeting of the "2nd Degree Masonic Conclave, which meets in the capitol city tomorrow. J. L. Carnicle of South Rend, came down on the morning train today to attend to some important business matters. While here Mr. Carnicle called at this office and had his name enrolled on our Weekly list in order that he might be posted on happen ings throughout the county. C. M. Manners and family, accom panied by Mrs. S. G. Stone, drove up to Omaha this morning, where they went to report to the physician at the hospital, where Mrs. Manners was receiving treatment some time since. The physician asked that af ter a certain time, she would re turn that he might know how she was progressing in her recovery. REPORT FOR SERVICE TODAY. This morning at ten o'clock the five per cent, of the f.rst call, who had volunteered, appeared at the court house and reported for service, they being Leo. II. Tighe, Hall A. Pollard, Oswald T. Miller, Carl Hal ton and Alex F. Miller. The alter nates were not required to appear at this time. The ones called departed this afternoon, for Lincoln, and will go to Ft. Riley, Kansas, from there. CEMETERY MEETING SATURDAY. There will be a meeting of those interested in the Horning Cemetery, at the Horning school house next Saturday, Sept. Sth, at 1::!0 p. m., at which business relating to the cemetery will be transacted. The removal of Mr. C. H. Schopp, re quiring the election of another 'sec retary. WHO WLL GET THE CAR? Many a child, boy or girl, are looking with envious eyes upon a little toy automobile which is being displayed in the window of Ilatt & Son, wishing that they might have it. It is for some youngster, and the way to get it is to go and see the firm, they will explain. Mrs.' A. C.
