Board met pursuant to adjourn ment, with all members present, when the following business was transact ed in regular form: Iii the matter of petitions for, es tablishing of a public road, commenc ing at the Southwest corner of the NE quarter Sec. 8 T 12 R 12 running thence North and terminating at the Northwest corner of the SW quarter. Sec. 5, T 12, R 12. and the vacation of a public road commencing at Cedar Creek running thence South and Southeast to point where it in tersects with the public road running between the NW quarter and SW quarter of Sec. 8, T 12, R 12, tiled ..itli the County Clerk December 18. 1010. The County Clerk reported to the Board tiiat as required by law lie had appointed a disinterested party as viewer to examine said roads and report on said petitions, and that said viewer had filled the and returned his reports on both petitions. The viewer reported unfavorably on petitions for estab lishing of new road and vacating of old road. Said reports together with viewers recommendations were read to the Board. The Board instructed the clerk to refund the road deposit to the parties paying same. Plans and specifications and bid ding blanks, for bridges, arches and culverts a sprepared by the State Engineer were adopted by the Board, and County Clerk instructed to call for bid-; for building wood, steel, and wood and steel bridges, concrete arch and box culverts and other concrete work,' such as wings and abutments for the year 1017 as provided by law. Plans and specifications now on rile in the office of the County Clerk at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Separate bids may le filed for each class of bridge work and for concrete arch and box culvert work. All bids to be filed on or lie fore noon of Saturday, March 17, 1017, and Jill bids to be opened at 10 o'clock A. M., on Tuesday, March 2o, 1017. The Board of County Commission ers reserve the right to build all bridges and concrete culverts costing 85oo.oo or less. The Board of Commissioners re serve the right to reject any or all bids, and in letting contract reserve the light to let same in whole or in part. Baldwin of Fair bury, Neb., visited at the home of Mal- com Pollard last Monday week. Peter Opp, who had been visiting his daughter in Nebraska City since Friday of last week, was handed his passport and returned to the Queen City Tuesday afternoon. Merrill Sheldon and Chester Stone left Friday afternoon for Elmwood, where they were invited to a party. They remained with their aunt until Monday morning. Mr. L. F. McCarthy of Alliance, Neb., who has been visiting in Ne hawka at the home of A. F. Strum for some time, went to Union Satur day morning to visit his brother. Abe Griffith, who has been quite sick for several days, was taken to York, Neb., Wednesday morning by his brother. Will, who came down after him. The mother and other relatives live there. Where's the fellow who said last fall, "a thin husk on the ear of corn denotes a mild winter," or words to that effect? Last Wednesday and Thursday knocked every tooth out of that old saw. and, the very idea into a cocked hat 20 below mild? L. J. Hall and R. A. Smith shipped a car load of stallions to Rapid City S. D., Monday. Mr. Smith accom panied by Lee Vetty went with the car. The horses were shipped in a Palace sto:4c car. which has every convenience in caring for and handling stock in transit. Merritt Pollard is the first to re port a new batch of chickens this year. He has thirty-six of the down tribe, arid with good luck expects them to make good frys by May first. Mrs. W. T. Dale, mother of Prof. R. T. Dale of the Nehawka schools, re turned to her home in University Place the latter part of last week, after an enjoyable visit with her son and fam ily here. Mrs. Tom Mason, who was operated on a week ago today at the Immanuel hospital in Omaha, underment the Fu rious ordeal in good shape and has since continued to improve. The con dition of her biood was such at the time of entering the hospital that it required three weeks of medical treat ment before it was considered safe to operate on her. The family and friends are glad to know the outcome, which so far, is favorable. LOUISVILLE Courier Jim Terryberry shipped a car load of cattle to the Omaha market Wed nesday. B. G. Hoover returned from a week's trip to St. Joseph, Kansas City anil Topeka Tuesday. Fred Peterson, of Funk, Neb., vis ited his father, P. Petersen and other relatives in town this week. The Missouri Pacific bridge men re port thirty-live inches of ice under the railroad bridge in the Platte river. Mrs. E. D. Mayfield and little daugh ter, Beth Jean, returned to-their home at O'Neill last Saturday after a two weeks' visit here with relatives and friends. Mrs. Darwin Vanscoyoc and sister, Miss Florence Brodine, of Lincoln, have been visiting their parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Brodine. Miss Florence is studying: music at the state univ r sity and will complete her course in June. The Degree of Honor installed the following officers Tuesday evening, after which lunch was served: Chicf-of-honor, Mrs. Henry Ahl; lady of hon or, Mrs. C. G. Mayfield; past chief of honor. Mrs. Chas. Ahl; secretary, Mrs. John Koop; usher, Mrs. Geo. Lutz. As the Courier goes to press an nouncement of the death of Mrs. Pre- cilla Noyes was received. Mrs. Noyrs passed away at noon on Thursday, February 8. She was one of the pio neers of this vicinity. Arrangements for the funeral have not been an nounced. Obituary of this beloved old lady will be printed next week. William Frost died at the Ford hos pital in Omaha Monday night at about 0 o'clock of tuberculosis, and the re mains were brought here and interred in Riverview cemetery Wednesday morning. Although he had lived in Louisville for a number of years but little was known of his family history other than that he had two sisters liv ing in Oregon. He was past 00 years of age. Laura Jane Vantine. the eight wet'ks j old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry j Vantine, died after a very short illness last Saturday morning. The funeral services were held at the home of Ed Miller.
