following business was transacted in
regular:
The county board of equalization
will sit for the purpose of equalizing
the assessment of Cass county for
the year 1916 in the commissioners'
chamber at the court house in Platts
mouth, Neb., beginning Tuesday,
June 13, 1916, at 9 o'clock a. m., and
continue from day to day till noon on
Saturday, June 17, 1916. All claims
for equalization must be filed on or
before noon of Friday, June 16, 1916.
Petition reecived from school offi
cers of school district No. 99 request
ing to have the boundaries of said
district readjusted according to Sec
tion 30-A of School Laws of Nebraska
for 1915, and same placed on file.
Action deferred pending investiga
tion. State auditor made report on ex
amination of accounts of County
Treasurer W. K. Fox from June 17,
1915, to April 3, 1916, and same was
placed on file.
Resignation of J. W. Johnson as
chairman of soldiers' relief commis
sion received, together with his rec
ommendation for the appointment of
Thomas Wiles to said office. On mo
tion said resignation was accepted
and Thomas Wiles appointed to fill
vacancy.

Martin Houke of Omaha was in the
city today, visiting with his many old
friends and enjoying the sights of the
old town.
Miss Lillian Murphy of Omaha was
a Sunday visitor here with her
mother and sister, and other relatives
and friends.
Dr. T. J. Todd arid little son of
Kearney, Neb., arrived yesterday aft
ernoon to visit here for a few days
with friends.
Miss Bertha Bonge came dowTi from
Omaha Saturday afternoon to enjoy
a visit here with her sister, Mrs. C.
L. Pease, and family. '
Miss Elsie Hubbard of Elliott, la.,
arrived Saturday afternoon for a
short visit in this city with her broth
er, Phil Hubbard, and family.
Ralph Haynie came in this morning
from his home in the precinct and
departed on the early Burlington train
for Omaha, where he will spend the
day.
Adam Meisinger of near Cullom
was in the city Saturday afternoon
for a few hours, looking after some
matters of business with the mer
chants. H. S. Baker of Council Bluffs came
down Saturday afternoon for a short
visit with his mother, Mrs. W. L.
Baker, and also other relatives and
friends. - v ' -. .
Henry A. Schneider returned yes
terday morning from Chicago, where
he has been in attendance at the re
publican national convention in that
city. .
Miss Julia Vlcek, who i.has been
here for the past week visiting at. the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jirousek,
departed Saturday afternoon for her
home in Chicago.
Mrs. A. A. Rich and children of
Omaha came down Saturday after
noon for an over-Sunday visit. here
with her parents,. Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Rauen, and family.
P. H. Meisinger, wife, son and
daughter motored in Saturday after
noon and spent a few hours here with
friends, as well as looked after a num
ber of business matters.
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hennings and
son, Albert, and daughter, Miss Helen,
motored in Saturday from their home
in Eight Mile Grove precinct to spend
the day attending to their trading.
W. C. K. Sidwall arrived Saturday
afternoon from Sheridan, Wyo., for a
visit here for a short time while en
joying a vacation from his duties in
the Burlington tie lant in that place.
County Superintendent Miss Eda
Marquardt departed . this afterpoon
for Alvo, where she will attend a
school meeting there this evening; to
arrange for the consolidation of, two
school districts.
George Stander drove! in from his
farm home Saturday afternoon to at
tend to some business matters, and
while here took time to call at this
office and have his subscription to the
Daily Journal extended for another
year, and also renewed the subscrip
tion of the paper going to T. F. Tidd
at Fleak, N. D.
C. S. Newlon, M. E. McKay, Nich
olas Halmes and G. H. Olive motored
over from Weeping Water this after
noon to spend a few hours in this
city, coming over in the fine new
Willys-Knight car of Mr. Newlon, and
where here he and Mr. McKay were
very pleasant callers at the Journal
office. Mr. Newlon renewing his sub
scription for another year.
