Tuesday, December 21st, both mat
inee and night, there will be presented
at the Gem theater the spectacular
drama of the western mining country,
"The Long Chance," with Frank Keen
an, the eminent American character
actor, in the leading role. The story of
the play in brief is as follows:
Harley Hennage is a gambler at
Red dog Junction. He is secretly in
love with Marie, the towne belle.
Marie falls in love with Corblay, a
prospector.
Harley resents Corblay's intrusion,
and tells him to get out of town; but
when he learns of Marie's love for
Corblay, he relents and leaves himself.
lie buys the Silver Dollar Retreat
in San Pasquel and in time comes to
be known as the worst man in town.
Marie's husband meanwhile has
gone out into the desert accompanied
by his faithful Indian and Carey, a
tenderfoot from Boston. Carey shoots
Corblay from behind and escapes with
the burros and the gold which they
discovered. Carey dies in the desert,
leaving a note in his canteen and an
inscription on a sand stone ledge,
reading, "Stranger, look in my can
teen and see that I get justice."
Later, Hennage, lerning of Marie's
poverty and the arrival of a child, ar
ranges to have Marie come to San
Pasquel, where he secures her a posi
tion as cashier in the eating house.
Eighteen years elapse. Hennage
has attached himself like a father to
the now grown child, Donna. Marie
falls ill and dies, leaving Hennage the
map of her husband's claim.
