Card of Thanks. We, the undersigned, wish to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness ami help during the illness of our wife and daughter. We especial ly w iih to thank the B. P. O. E. and the I. L. C. club for the beautiful flowers sent. Mrs. Knorr is improv ing rapidly and it is hoped she will soon be able to resume her housework. Eert F. Knorr. Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Eastwood. Last evening Mrs. Washington Smith, for many years a resident of this city, passed away very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Cooledge, at Rosolie, Nebras ka, where she had been making her home for the past few months. Mrs. Smith had been in very poor health for the past few years, having been a suf ferer from heart trouble, and death came very suddenly to her. The mes sage conveying the sad news did not give the cause of her death, but it is thought to have resulted from an at tack of heart trouble. It is with the deepest of regret that the many friends of this estimable lady will learn of her death, and her passing will be most sincerely mourned, as during her residence here she made many friends by her kindly ways and gentleness to all with whom she came in contact. The body will be brought here tomorrow evening on No. 14 and the funeral held Wednesday, but the hour cannot be set until further word is received from the family. The body will be laid at rest in Oak Hill ceme tery beside that of the husband, who preceded her in death some two years ago. For years Mr. and Mrs. Smith were prominent residents of this city and among the old friends the mes sage conveying the news of the death of this good woman will bring a feel ing of deepest regret. Three children, Mrs. William Cooledge of Rosolie, Ne braska; Mrs. Scott of Central City, and Glenn W. Smith of Omaha, are left to mourn her death. Goes to State Penitentiary. WAITED ! This morning Sheriff Quinton de parted for Lincoln, taking with him John Fowler, who will enter upon a sentence of from one to fifteen years for forgery, having pled guilty to the charge of forging a check which was passed on the bank at Greenwood. Fowler is well advanced in years and seems rather feeble, as well as" men tally weak, and having spent many years in prison seemed to welcome the fact that he was soon to take up his qaurters at the state prison, having known no other home for years. FINE SERVICES AT THE MASONIC HOME SUNDAY Yesterday afternoon was a most pleasant occasion at the Masonic Home and the service conducted for the benefit of the aged members of the family at the Home will be most pleasantly remembered by them. It being the Sunday that Rev. II. G. McClusky of the Presbyterian church was to officiate, he secured to assist him in the service the members of the Platt.mouth male quartet, Messers E. A. McElwain, Herman Hough, Bert Knorr and himself and this or ganization of talented vocalists added very much to the interest and pleas ure of the occasion. Rev. McClusky conducted the religious service for the benefit of the aged people and was assisted by the quartet with a numb er of fine selections and the quartet made such an impression with the residents of the home that they were compelled to give an afternoon of song. The quartet used the songs which were so popular during the Sunday campaign in Omaha and from the inspiring strains of "Brighten the Corner" they were asked to give others of those songs and it was not until i o'clock that the members of the quartet were alowed to close their program of song. This quartet has been practicing together for only a short time but has some of the finest voices of the city in its organization and their appearance at any public gathering is always the source of the greatest of pleasure and to the old folks at the Masonic Home their visit was a rare treat and it was certainly a most commendable action of the gen tlemen composing the quartet in giv ing this pleasant afternoon entertain ment to those who are largely shut out from participation in the active life of the world through their feebleness and the occasion will be foundly re membered by every member of the family at the Home.
