TWO POPULAR YOUNG
PEOPLE OF UNION ARE
UNITED IN MARRIAGE
(Union Ledger.)
The matrimonial reporter has
been "up in the air' again this
week on account of lack of in
formation in this line, and the
best endeavors to get "inside in
formation" have resulted in fail
ure. But nevertheless, we have
the names of the four parties
most concerned, and the time and
place of the weddings are yet un
known at these matrimonial
headquarters, although we
sought the data for a complete
write-up, such as we delight in
giving to young people who make
this important move in life.
In one of the weddings the
principals were Riy Ytmnker and
Miss Esther Clarence, both of
whom have grown from child
hood in this vicinity. The groom
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Win
Younker, residing east of town,
and is one of the best young men
of which this county can boast,
being a very energetic and pop
ular young man. The bride is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Clarence, who for several years
have resided northeast of here.
She is a most estimable young
lady, whose popularity is well
merited by her many admirable
accomplishments.
The other wedding united the
lives and fortunes of Mr. George
Burr of Nebraska City and Miss
Lena Tillman of Union. Mr.
Burr is a young gentleman of ex
cellent habits and character and
one of the most popular young
men of Nebraska City, and has a
host of friends here, where he
was employed last summer in the
construction of the new school
building. The bride is a daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. William Till
pian, the family having been resi
dents of this village for several
years. She is well known and
very popular among all her as

Outline of "The Shepherd of the
Hills," Which Will Be Here
Friday Might, April 3.
The success of Harold Boil
Wright's novel, "The Shepherd
of the Hills," made into a play by
its author, in callaboration with
Elsbery W. Reynolds, is proving
just as big on the stage as in
book form in the book stores.
The story of the play is based
on a somewhat dramatic plot of
mystery. An unknown comes in
to the Ozark mountains and be
cause of his clerical bearing and
readiness to officiate for the reg
ular pastor of the mountaineers,
who live so much to themselves,
are willing to let the man live the
life of a partial recluse. He
makes friends with one family
and volunteers for the place of
shepherd. In this guise he at
tempts to expiate the wrong-doing
of his son, who several years
previous had come into the
mountains and wronged one of
the young women. Her father has
vowed deadly vengence on the
betrayer of his daughter, but he
has disappeared, leaving no
traces of his whereabouts. It is
generally supposed that he is
dead. The good shepherd wins
the love and respect of the moun
taineers, though at one time his
life is endangered by a lawless
band of mountaineers who sus
pect he is a revenue officer.
There are many dramatic
episodes in the play, . but its
strength lies in the unfolding and
development of its characters.
The shepherd is a most impres
sive figure, mentally and physi
cally. The young woman, who is the
heroine of the story, is untram
melled by the conventions of the
town and has good red blood in
her veins. With the aid of the
shepherd she polishes her mind
so that she becomes a young
woman of culture and refine
ment. Then there is the soung
mountaineer whose love is
honest and sincere and who
