Fresh paint paper and a general cleaning and overhauling is now in regress and when the old house is re opened, the old patrons of Ihe place will hardly recognize it They aro good hotel people, and before long Murray can boast of the best eating house in the county. Francis Cook, who has been so seriously ill for tho past few days with pneumonia, U improving at this time, with every indication for recovery. F.lmer Hollslroni, the genial as sistant in the Murray State bank, has been taken to Omaha, where he will submit to m operation for appendicitis this week. Elmer has lots of friends in and near Mur ray, who will lie pleased to learn of his rapid recovery and return to his duties at th bank. Cashier Moedeker is left al ine during his absence. Morris, the sou of Mr. II. C. Hailey, met with quite a serious accident, Tuesday of this week, while dragging the roads, west of Murray. In turning the corner the draw struck a stone with such force that it fell onto the mules' heels, frightening them so that they ran away. The young man was thrown in front of the draw and carried a full city block. His injuries were not. serious, but it sure was a very narrow escape. His clolhinw was completely lorn from his body, and his arm ami side were slightly bruised, other wise uninjured. LOST A Scotch Collie bitch, bred to whelp ibiuil. Mur ray people are glad to see them return to town. The Big Candle Burns Out. The big ranrih for which so many people have been anxiously wailing to be lighted, was lit on the second day of Mav. and burned just fifty-three hours, one minute and eleven seconds, going out Tuesday evening at, !:i.r. While the candle was not burning all the lime, a close tab of the ac tual hours it took to consume the huge bunch of tallow was kept. There were 0,000 tickets out, or that many guesses as to how long it would burn, of course varying many hours. Mrs. Chas. Mclley nolds came nearest to the actual burning time, placing the limit at 53 hours, 2 minutes and 2 seconds and won the set of dishes. The boys' prize was awarded to Willie Vest, who placed the time at 52 hours, 56 minutes and 51 seconds, this prize being a wagon. The lit tle girl's prize, a baby buggy, was given to Mayone Chambers, whose lime was 52 hours, 38 minutes and 42 seconds. The manicure set, the young ladies' prize, went to Miss Fva Bailey, on the guess of 52 hours, 59 minutes anri 59 seconds. The $3.00 hat, gentle man's prize, was awarded to V. Neeley, who placed the burning time at 53 hours, 5 minutes and 15 seconds. Shine was a pas senger this afternoon for Omaha, where he will attend the meeting of the Missouri Valley Historical society as he is one of the best informed men of historical date of this section in the state. Henry - Engelkemeier and wife and Miss Sophia Krapger of near Murray drove up this morning and were passengers on the early Bur-, lington train for Omaha, where they were called on business mat ters. Leon Huckins came down from Lincoln this morning and spent the day here attending to busi ness matters for a few hours in connection with his paper, the Lincoln Herald.
