ING NEW FILTERING PLANT

lany has just completed the in
stalling of a new filter plant at
I heir pumping: station, north of
the city. This plant has been
under construction for the past
year and a half aid has cost the
company a large sum of money,
but the new management has
spared no expense to put their
plant in first-class shape, and
will continue the policy of im
proving until the pumping station
here is one of the best in the
slate. Mr. Sinclair, the manager
of the company here, expects to
have the new filler plant in con
tinual operation in a couple of
iays, as it has been tested out
and found to be in ilrst-elass
shape find ready foi service.
This addition to the pumping
station will greatly improve tho
quality of water furnished by the
company and give the patrons the
benefit of the improvement. The
Plattsmoulh Water company has,
ince the change in ownership,
greatly helped the service in the
city by making all the improve
ments possible, and their efforts
along this line deserve the com
mendation of the water users, as
it has been possible a much hel
ler service, and the company will
keep adding to the equipment and
facilities al the pumping station
as the business demands.

Looking After B. & M. Business.
K. W. Zavgren came in last
evening from Omaha to look after
some business for I he Uurlingtou
here and across the river. Mr.
Zavgren was seized with appen
dicitis while working acros the
river about two months ago, where
he was in charge of the rip
rapping, and was operated on in
Omaha, and he declares that he
feels belter now than he has for
the past fifteen years, as he was
troubled greatly in the last few
years by his stomach.

No. '21 closed their year's work on
last Kriday, and in order to pro
perly commemorate the happy
event the pupils were favored
with a picnic given by their teach
er. Miss Florence Hummel, on
Sunday, April 27. Al the noon
hour a most delicious dinner was
served, consisting of everything
good to eat. Th" afternoon was
wliiled away in playing different

MAT ATTEND GETTYS
BURG CELEBRATION
The stale legislature, at their
last session, appropriated $4,000
to pay the expenses of the old
soldiers residing in this stale who
fought at (ietlysburg, back to that
battlefield this summer on the
fiftieth anniversary of the great
conllicl. l'lallsnioulli has a rep
resentative who is eligible to take
advantage of the offer, as he was
in the thick of tho light there, and
that is Captain S. 11. Morrison,
who, as a member of the Second
Wisconsin infantry, a part of
which was known as the "Iron
Brigade," and which withstood
the assaults of the southern army
which swept against them in
charge after charge. The brigade
was commanded by Oeneral E. S.
Hragg of Wisconsin, who was aft
erwards very prominent in demo
cratic politics in his home stale.
The captain at (his bailie received
a wound which incapacitated hliri
from duty for some time, but the
memory of the great struggle will
always live with him. It is lo be
hoped that the captain will be able
lo attend the reunion al (Jettys
burg, which will be attended by
both the northern and southern
old veterans, all under the same
old flag.

for Hie Hurlington, who lives in
one of the bunk cars, near the

appeared and in its place was Hie
ragged garments of the Irani). He
reported the mailer to the police,
but a I borough search of the yards
and tracks failed to discover the
man who did Hie stealing, ami it
is thought he boarded a passing
train before the ioss was dis
covered and made good his escape.
The tramps had made a shack up
near the old brewery, where they
congregated, and this afternoon
Assistant Chief of Police Neu
mann went up there and had the
place torn down to stop their
hanging out there.
NEW TELEPHONE SYSTEM
IS NOW IN FULL FORCE
Yesterday afternoon the Lin
coln Telephone and Telegraph
company cut over their system
from the old to the new, and this
morning the employes of the com
pany were busily engaged in re
moving the old-fashioned tele
phones out of Hie business houses
and installing the new ones,
which have been ready for the
change for several months. The
new system, which does away with
the necessity of ringing for cen
tral, will prove lo ne a great deal
more convenient to the subscrib
ers than I lie (dd method.
