city. Mrs. l.oughridge returned
home Wednesday morning.
Dr. G. II. (iilmore drove to
Plattsmniith Wednesday after
noon, where he look the train for
Omaha to look after some profes
sional business. The publisher
of the Journal was permitted to
return to Plattsmouth with him.
There will be a meeting of the
member of the old Murray band
held at the Davis & Pitman hard
ware store on Saturday evening,
December 21. There will be some
business matters to look after
and every member is requested to
be present.

Tom Smith is still suffering a
great deal wilh his injured arm.
The one bone refused to knit, lie
still carries his arm in a sling
and cast, which he expects to have
removed this week. He then has
hopes of ascertaining just what
the future has in store for him.

couraged at times.
Ellis Daniels was quite badly
injured last Friday while hauling
some posts. One of the heavy
timbers fell from the wagon, one
end catching in the wheel, while
tho other was thrown with con
siderable force, striking Kllia on
I he shoulder, injuring it quite
painfully. The shoulder blade
was broken and quite badly
bruised. He is getting along nice
ly at this time.

week. The hoys are stepping
around as proud as the only old
turkey gobbler that escaped the
last Thanksgiving dinner parly,

Pleasant Surprise.
Mrs. W. F. Moore was very
pleasantly surprised Monday
evening, when the neighbors and
friends in the vicinity stepped in
al, an early hour in the evening
and announced that owing to this
being the fifty-third anniversary
of her birth, they had come with
the intention of helping her re
new her youthful days. Which
we believe they certainly did. The
evening was spent with games and
music and closed wilh an elegant
"oyster feed." Those present

The Bazaar a Success.
The Presbyterian Hazaar was
sure one of I he successful events
of the season, both financially and
socially. The ladies worked very
hard for many months for this
crowning event, and were sure de
serving of nil the success that
came (heir way last Saturday. The
boot lis were well lilted wilh many
very prelty articles, all of which
were useful and ornamental, and
brought ready sale. The society
netted iMOO. The ladies feel
really indebted to the numerous
buyers from the outside for their
generosity.
Christmas Tree.
The members of the Christian
church are preparing for a pro
gram and Christmas tree at the
church on Christmas eve. Every
body is cordially invited to come
out, and also bring their gifts to
be distributed from the tree. An
excellent time is anticipated.

The Joke on Lee.
Our excellent friend, Lee Old
ham, has just passed his sixty
eighth birthday, and in honor of
the occasion his many gentlemen
friends planned a very pleasant
celebration of the affair last Sat
urday evening. Lee was taking
the world rather quietly at his
home reading the evening paper,
when Dr. Gilmorc appeared on
the scene and requested that Lei
was needed down at the Lough-
ridge hall, where the citizens were
gathering to settle the posloftlce
appointment in Murray. The
doctor told Lee that several
citizens were up for the place and
that he was needed lo make the
proper select ion. Lee did not take
much stock in this story, bul as
he had never had cause to doubt
the dotcor's word, he proceeded
to go down to the meeting and
make a scrap for his friends, as
he usually does. Arriving at the
ball he found just about the num
ber of men present that the doctor
had told him of, but the Murray
postofllec was the least thing in
their minds at that time. Here
they had gathered with many good
things lo eat. and enjoy a pleasant
evening with Mr. Oldham, and as
sist him in celebrating his birth
day anniversary. It was sure a
pleasant time for all.
