A A I- A E There Will Have to Be Some Chances taken by Home Sapital to Be Successful. In spile of the dilllcullies of landing new industries, aggres sive cities and towns arc making more and more effort to get new manufacturing plants. A single newspaper ilem that Smith is thinking of Ineat intra now branch of his manufacturing business, or that young Jones is to start out for himself, brings a perfect flood of inquiries from eagle-eyed Commercial chilis. Many of these proposif ions come from profes sional rounders, who stay in one place only as long as they get (ax exemptions and free rent. Under such conditions men with money are slow to invest their dollars. At the same lime other cities are getting substantial new enter prises, and their population figures are jumping ahead. As a man will never pet much beyond day wages unless he takes some chances, so a community will stand still if it refuses lo invest money except, on certainties. When a town does land a sizeable new industry permanently the in crease of population brings about a growth in retail trade and real estate values thai will wipe out many previous losses. The cities where this growth has come have been those in which the entire business community has turned in to help young men get a foothold. Failures and mistakes were made, but a few worthless shares of stock look trilling when popula tion grow tli has doubled the value of your real estate or business. May Loso Eye. Chester Hallentine was the vic tim of an accident. Saturday night dial may eventually cost him one of his eyes. (iifl'ord, the eye specialist, fixed him up, but it will he several days before they are able to tell how serimis the injury may prove. The only moral to lie drawn from this is that, a barber shop is a poor place for rough pranks. Nebaw ka News, William Deles Dernier of Kliu wood was in the city today on pro fessional business. Preparing to Sink Piers. From Saturday's Dully. Work was commenced today by Waller While and a force of men under the direction of K. C. lleald of Washington, D. C, looking to ward, the prevention of further settling of the new postolllee building. Mr. lleald is having three lest, piers of concrete put down on the south end of tho lot; these are a foot in diameter and will extend to some distance be low the surface and will later, af ter the concrete sets, have the carrying capacity ascertained by being subjected lo a heavy load, which will be placed on a platform on lop of the piers. When the lest is completed and the amount of carrying capacity is ascertain ed, excavations for concrete piers, both inside and outside the build ing will be sunk by boring, and concrete piers thrown under the footings of the building. In Ibis way the foundation can be rein forced and made as substantial as could have been done had the piers been sunk in (he first place. Charles Hula visited his broth er, Anton, at.
