PEOPLE ft J- Senr.on ! y ikX CHARLES T. London. October 23. Pastor Husm-Ii of Brooklyn Tabernacle today nddrcsH ed an immense audience la the world' jreatest Auditorium, tlio Uoyal Albert Hall. Many of Lis audience wit-? Jews, attracted by the liberal extracts from Pastor KusseH's sermon which have been appearing In the Jewish pa pers nil over the world. The discourse was full of coinfortliiK assurances (both to Jew and Gentile) of the glorious out come to the I M vine Plan, ns respects cur world and its Inhabitants. We re port flie address only In part, as fol lows: There can be no doubt that the words of our text apply, not to Spiritual Is rael and the heavenly Jerusalem, but to tho Seed of Jacob, for many cen turies travailing In paln-a nation without a land, people possessing most wonderful promises, yet enjoying none : of them a people wattered amongst 11 other peoples; yet, in harmony with the Hivlne promise made nt the begin ning of their organization, they have teen preserved "parate and distinct from all other nations! The Jews are a miracle In themselves. They wlttics to the civilized world God's promises and the power thereof in the human mind. As foretold In the Scriptures for long centuries they have bad no Prophet, no Priest, no ephod. no vision from God, no revelation. Tho people to whom at one tlmo belonged the hon or of being the only people to whom the Divine purposes were revealed have for more than eighteen centuries U-en left destitute of any evidence of Di vine favor, except In this one fact, that their solidarity as a propfo i prtsrrrtd. We are not of those who rail against the Jew; who cry out, "Christ-killers; the rengennce of God Is npoo you, and what you have suffered Is only a fore taste of more awful suffering for all ternlty!" Thnnk God. No! We have o auch evil sentiment In our heart. We have nothing for the Jew but sym pathy, even while In him, aa In others t Adam's children, we may see much to reprehend; nevertheless, we also aeo his commendable qualities. Among others, we see the quality which God o greatly appreciated In Abraham; namely, faith In his God and In the Divine promises. Such a faith has In spired "God's Chosen People" to wait for hit promised Messianic Kingdom, lo, these mnny centuries through all klnda of discouragements, disappoint ments and persecutions. The long-promised time of Israel's txaltatlon as tho channel of Messianic blessing to mankind Is near it hasteth preatly. What though there shall be another and great spasm of tribula tion In conjunction with the birth of the New Order of things! P.eyond the sighing and tho crying, the morning dawns tho glorious day In which the Bun of Itlghtcousncss shall chase from the world all the shadows of death and despair, which sin and Its penalty have brought upon mankind 1 What though the Scriptures tell us that Is rael is yet to hnve "The time of Ja cob's trouble" In connection with the World's great time of trouble Impend ing. None of these things shall hinder Ms from rejoicing In tho New Heavens and the New Earth, which God de clares ho Is about to create and put Into control of our world "lie ye glad and rejoice forever In that which I create" (!nlh lxv, 18). The New Heavens and tho New Tartu nre but symbolical terms for the consideration of, that New Era, In which there will be n new social order, lis well as a new ecclesiastical system, eternal In tho heavens. The time has come when our text is having its fulllllment. The shining of the lamp of Truth upon tho prophetic page shows us that the great clock of the I'nlversels marl; lug the hour when he whose right It Is shall take to him fclf lis great power and reign. Ah. yes! We remember that It Is written thnt then the nations shall he ungry, ai d God's wrath shall be ninnlfest. and tb-n the time shall come for the Judg ment of the dead and the reward of nil, both small and great. Put we nre trl.-.d, nevertheless, that the "times of the Gentiles" are nearly nt an end end the time of Messiah's theocratic gov ernment Is at band -For he must reign until he shall have put down all un righteousness and Insubordination, un til he phall have caused every knee to bow and every tongue to eonhws to the glory of God the Pa (her. First In order of the Kingdom work will be the binding of Satan -tin1 work of a heavenly, and not of nn earthly king. Gradually, In the judgments, decrees, rewards, punishments of man kind and the banishing of sin and death will the great King of Glory re veal his own gracious character nnd tho Pother's righteousness to the chil dren of men. Gradually all will hnve t he eyes of their understanding open ed to see. not ouly tho Father of all In his truo character, but also the Ron In his glorious majestythe Conciuer. or, "who, for tho joy that was Bet be fore him, eudured the cross, despising the shame." and hence Is at tho right hand of Divine majesty and entrusted with the pouring out of the Divine blessing upon Israel, and. through la- 00O PULPIT... God's Messare of Comfort To the Jews "Comfort v. comfort ye ry ..io(.! ai!h Tout Cod. fejak ye con.Lr. :!,!y lo j-ri;i-lem, nd cry unto het, th. her wji.'aie it c comi.LJ.ed, thai her inuuily u pirdoin) ; lor he l.tlh received ol tde Lord hand djble lor all h.-r uns. Isaiah it, I, L. OOC roe I. e.t!ct.t!lMg that blessing to every nation. One King, but Two Kingdoms. It has es apcl Christendom in gen eral un'.ll iniw that the Divine promise to Abrahti'ii Is to be fullllled through two Seeds one a heavenly class, the other an earthly class, with Messiah the Head over all. For eighteen cen turies God favored the Seed of Abra ham, the nation of Israel. Chastise ments th".v had, reproofs In righteous ness; yet In all that time they had also Divine favor, ns represented In their Law and In tho Prophecies' and In the privileges which came to them under the Law Covenant, In that they had nn annual Atonement Day, which contin ued to them Divine favor. That period of favor, explain It how we may, be gan to wane about the time of Jesus' death. It was completely removed from them In the desolation of their land by the Roman army A. D. 70. Now a pnrnilcl time has been reached, ns stated In our text. Hence It is time for tho return of God's favor, ns here in mentioned. Tho favor already Is returning. The Jew has not been so comfort able, nor ao favorably fixed as he Is today, In more than eighteen cen turies. Hut his blessing Is only begin ning. Fhortly Divine favor, In God's duo time, will accomplish for his Chosen Foople nil the precious prom ises of the Law and of the Prophets. Alrendy the Jew Is awakening to a re alization of this great Truth. Zionism, which started ns a political movement Is about to bud and blossom Into a re ligious movement and the blessing of Divine Providence will ao order their affairs. The words of the Honk, the words of Divine promise, ao long read Ignorantly and blindly, are about to become luminous nnd constitute the light which will direct them In the ways of the Lord lending on to the rehabilitation of Jerusalem and to the attainment of loftier Ideals amongst the Jewish people. A voice Is sound ing from the wilderness, and the Jews everywhere are hearkening to If. It does not call them to Wome Chris tians, but to remain Jews and to real ize, as Jews, the Ideals set before thera by tho Lord In the Law and by the rrophcts. To all those exercised thereby a great blessing Is near, which will more than compensate for the sor rows of tho past. Neither by sword, oor guns, nor dreadnnughts, neither by flying nlr-ahlps, nor torpedoes will Is rael's great victory be won. neither by money power and worshipping of the cn!den calf of finance, nor by trusting In the nrm of flesh, but by iooklng to the Lord, from whom will come their help. Messiah's Spiritual Empire, about to be established, will bind Satnn. re strain every evil nnd lift up a stand ard for the people, blessing Israel and establishing with them the New (Law) Covenant Instead of the Old haw Covenant-under the better Mediator, still more capable than the great Moses; under the greater King, still more wise than Solomon and still more beloved of God thau David. This great Celes tial Empire will be established with great authority In tho world by a time of trouble, a time of earthly distress, which the prophecies plcturo as terri ble a abort reign of anarchy. Jews and Gentiles will be responsible, rich and poor, for the bringing to pass of this awful troublo, by reason of tho selfishness which nt present Is govern ing tho world and which will bo used of tho Lord to wreck our present grand civilization grand nt least on its sur face and In Its aspirations and preten sions. A Socialistic artillery of words and ecclesiastical bonds of similar na ture will only aggravate tho strife. Financial weights nnd levers will have much to do with tho great crush of tho forces of clvlllzatlou In this near approaching cataclysm of trouble. In which tho rclgu of sin. Inequity, In justice, selfishness, shall forever fall, to rise no more; nnd the present re ligious systems also shall lie found wanting and pnss away. For theso old systems, symbolically tho heavens and earth of the present time, will be substituted the New Heavens and the New Earth the Church glorllled be yond the vail as the Itrlde of the great Messiah, and. Society on earth reorganized, will constitute the New Earth, wherein will dwell righteous ness. The transition will be but a momentary crdeal. ns compared with the glorious eternity of blessing under Messiah's righteous supervision. "He tnakelh war to cease unto the end ef the earth." lrol's Hopes Why So Dslsyedf Tlio perplexing thought with our Jewish friends, as well ns with Chris tians. Is. It these things be so; It Mes siah's Kingdom Is yet to be establish ed, ns the Jews contemplated, only on a spiritual plane instead of an earthly one; am) If (Sod's purpose Is to use those anciently favored people as the channels of his blessing in the future, why has there been so long delay? We answer. This Is what the Scrip tures term Ihe Mjrrtrj-the matter which God did not reveal directly, either to Abraham or through any of Mie rrophcts. Indirectly he hinted at It. saying to Abraham. "Thy Seed Fhiill be us the t-titrs of luaveu. and as the sand of i!,e seashore lor uiuitl tud ." Put Ahmt.Hiii did not discern. K;;iue people. nt The 'era! .III'.-"- o T . i .ti-i-,1 I..- 1 br as the s;. tid of i!.-.' c tude." And they nn all li; ve C.e faith of Abraham and his i.IjmIIi ih e. ere they cmj reach perfection as mem bers of his Vcd. First In the order of blessing will come the Ancient Worthies Abraham. Isaac, Jacob and all the Prophets and holy ones of the past. These will be raised from the dead by the power of God uot imper fect and fallen, but perfect; fully up to all the glorious Ideals of their minds aforetime. This will be their reward for having walked by faith nnd not by sight. Thus we read. Instead of be ing the fathers, they shall be the chil dren, whom Messiah will make princes In all the earth his representatives in power. In rulershlp, In authority (Psalms xlv, pi). At that time tho blessing shall return to Israel that has been taken from them for more than eighteen centuries God's special fa vor. Under their New Covenant they shall lie blessed; their eyes shall be opened: "they shall look upon him whom they pierced;" they shall mourn for him; they shall rejoice In him. They will say. This Is our ruler. We have waited for him, nnd he will save us (Zecharlah xll, 10). Crimes Committod In Jesus' Name. With shame true Christians must admit that most atrocious crimes were committed In the name of Jesus dur ing the "Dark Ages." Worse than thnt! The horrible misrepresentation j of all that the name of Jesus stands for still continues. Witness, for In stance, the Injustices practised in the name of Christianity against the Jew In Russia for years past, and In vari ous nations In remoter tltnou Wlttw.ua I the fact also that only two months ago the so-called Chrlstluns of Koumanla acted like veritable demons toward their Jewish neighbors. Well-nuthen-tlcated accounts tell that the Jewish cemetery was despoiled. Many of those buried within the two preceding months were dug up and the putrid and mangled corpses thrown on the steps and In the door-yards of their families. Can we wonder that the Jew has come to have a hatred for the word Christian and for the name Je sus? The name Jesus, as la well known. Is hut another form for Joshua, which signifies Deliverer. The name Christ Is the Greek equivalent for the word Messiah. Every Jew, rightly Informed Respecting the character and the teach ings of Jesus, Is bound to respect hlra and his Immediate followers as amongst the grandest Jews that ever lived. They must not be Judged ac cording to the perversion of their teachings, so common amongst Chris tians. And It should not be forgotten that while the masses of Christendom have misrepresented their teaching, doctrines and practises, there has been throughout the eutlre age a salntir few who have closely followed In the footsteps of Jesus. In my preaching I do not urge upon the Jews to become Christians; but I seek to hold forth the Divine standard for tbeiu nnd to assist them to get ready for the fulfillment of the glori ous promises which are theirs. That tho duo time for the fulllllment of fheso Is at hand is tho comfort we of fer them. In harmony with our text. The Trophet declares that It will be after their return to their own land, and after the great time of trouble which Is now Impending upon Chris tendom, that the Jew will recognise that the great Messiah of glory, the great Michael of Daniel xll. 1. for whose Kingdom they hnve been wait ing, Is none Mlcr than the "Man Christ Jesus, who pui' himself a ransom for all men" clgliieen centuries ago. God will then bles-cn!,v o;lu their tyes of understanding. As The Prophet de clares, "They shall look upon h!:r. whom they pierced"; they will theu cc the Identity between tho Jesus who was sacriilced for the sins of Is rael and the world and the Messiah of Glory, whose Kingdom will use Israel in the blessing of the world. Menntline, what has Gid wrought? Ah, this, again, we say is the Mys tery 1 Here nnd there from Jew and Gentile, saintly characters hnve been sought nnd found by the preaching of tlio message of Christ, even though thnt message frequently was dimmed by earthly imperfections and blemishes-by erroneous representation. Those saintly ones will bo sharers with Messiah In Divine blessings on tlx spirit plane, mentioned to Abra ham under the figure that bis "Seed shall In ns the stars of heaven." Hut under what conditions do these attain a spiritual Inheritance like unio the nngeh and far above them? We an swer that the spirit nature Is the di vine reward of a special obedience. Our race was not created on the heav enly plane nor for a heavenly nature: but of the earth earthy. And Its sal vntV'ii from sin will bring It to the full perfection of human nature and to tho full enjoyment of a world-wide Eden. The Spiritual Seed of Abraham Is to be composed of Messiah and the Elect Little I'hxk of saintly footstep followers. Tho price of their exalta tion Is their consecration unto death and faithfulness to that Vow. These are the Jewels mentioned by tho Lord to the Prophet "Gather together my snlnts unto me, snlth the I-nrd; thoso who hnve made a Covenant with me by sacrifice:" "They shall be mine. In thnt day when I make up my Jewels." LJ LJ VXIOX. (Ledger.)
