The Odd Fellows were busy Thurs day evening conferring the degree on a candidate. A large crowd were present to witness the work. J. C. Stcffens residence In cast Avoca and will soon become a resident of our thriving little city. Mr. Steffens and wife will leave about April 1 st. for Germany, where they will spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. netts, sr., gave a farewell party on Tuesday evening for their son Clarence, who will leave this week for Coffeyville, Kan sas, where he has a good position. The Burlington railroad at this place Is commencing some extensive work along the river east of here where It has a number of gangs of men working putting In rip-rap where there Is danger of a washout of track or overflowing of the river. Representative Charles E. Noyes arrived In Louisville Tuesday from Lincoln from- whence he had come In his automobile. He was accom panied by Arthur L.
