At about 11:30 p. m. fire was discovered in the lower rooms of the hardware store formerly owned by Aug. Dehning, but at this time used by H. Westlake as a meat market. The alarm was quickly given and the citizens responded en mass, but it was to no purpose as the fire had gained great headway and it was im possible to save a single article from from the burning building. Fortunately the upper rooms were not occupied at the time of the fire, the Westlake fam ily having moved to another location a short time ago. Mrs. Dehning had one thousand dollars insurance on the build ing, while Mr. Westlake had six hun dred dollars insurance on his fixtures and furnishings. The loss to both is quite heavy.
