PLATTSMOUTH, - - - NEBRASKA' IAN GUPiD AGAIN GETS IN HIS WORK John W. Crabill and Miss Bertha Kennedy United in Wedlock Last evt-riin"; when the days work was neariri"; an end anal that the oflicers at the court house were ;ettin; ready for supper, John V. Crabill put on his coat at the store and looked into thels" to reassure himself and liKhtinjr a fresh ci";ar sallied forth, with a happy litfht in his eyes, and leasurely strolled down Main street, that he mitfht not attract attention, but with a little shadow of nervousness, found himself a few minutes later at the office of thecunty judjfe. Here, when he entered, he was accosted by a 'tfoaxl evening Mr. Cra bill" from the polite and affable deputy, Mrs. McVicker. John, with the color of health upon his cheek, and a little nervousness of speech returned the salutation, and said, "I would like to jet a marriage license." but Mrs. Mc Vicker who had made a purchase a few days before, and it heiri"; the first day of the month said "what is the bill," the color deepened on our jewler's cheek and he said, "I did not brin the hii! 1 want to tt a license." While the clerk said "no you want me to pay the bill," while John attain said "no, really 1 want a license." His face now three decrees more rosy than at first. Learnir."; that it would be necessary for him to have the written consent af the young lady in question, John's blush deepened and the roses on his cheeks vied with the crimsom rambler in redness. Until now each had thought' the other was joking, when in fact they were both in earnest, but such is the way of things in this life we are not always understood when we use all our efforts to be very plain. When it did dawn on the clerk to issue the required licence, she blushed also. Hut .Ja.-hn soon had the permit which is necessary in order to wed. in his pocket and it said that he was thirty-four and Mis IJcrtha Kennedy thirty. After Mr. Crabill had made the deposit re quired as an evidence of good faith, hut not for publication, hedeparted not more happy, tor he was very happy before, but with more experience. The ceremony uniting the lives of Miss r.ertha Kennedy and John W. Cra bill was performed at S o'clock at the home of the bride's mother, in the qresence f only the families of the con tracting parties. After congratulations a light supper was served and a noise outside announced the fact that Young America had knowledge of the joining of these young lives, for a chivarfawas in order. This was satisfied by a treat for the ones participating, they disap pearing, wishing the happy couple joy untold. After a bounteous supper had been surved. Mr. ar.d Mrs. Crabill departed on the Missouri Pacific for Kansas City, amid a shower of rice and old shoes, and in some way a few pairs of old shoes got entangled with their baggage. From Kansas City they will go to Waukena. Kansas, and will be the guests of "Mr. and Mrs. Ezra W. Cra bill. a brother of the groom. After a sojourn in the sunny land of Kansas, where John has some property, the bri dal party will probably go to Denver, and thence home. They will be at home to their many friends after October 1st. The Journal, with their hosts of friends, extend to them their best wishes and hopes that their lives may be as serene as a day in June, and as free from December weathtr as is possible, and not forget that they remain inhabitants of this terrestrial ball. The bride grew to womanhood in this city and is lova3cl and respected by all who know her. To know her is to know a person with a lovely disposition, kindly to a fault, and an intelligent, hardworker in the school room where she had spent her time for the past two year. She was a gradu ate at the institution where she has been an instructor. And John, who wears a Sunday smile all through the week: ves. he grew up here, and bv rl?nf Viavr tcoi-1 nT-o-ili.oirm to ! business has succeeded in making a competence. and now enjoys a good business. AVhat is above all the other things that we can say for him in the line of business, enjoys the confidence I and respect of all who know him and I to know him is to say a good word in j his behalf. I The Charming Woman Is not necessarily one of perfect form and features. Many a plain woman could never serve as an artists model, possesses those rare qualities that all the world admirss; neatness, clear eyes, clean smooth skin, and that sprightli ness of step and action that accompany good health. A physically weak woman is never attractive, not even to herself. Electric Bitters restore weak women, give stroug nerves, bright eyes, smooth, velvety skin, beautiful complexion. PLATTSf.lOUTirS PAST AND PRESENT Vhe writer of this article came to Pla'ttsmouth in lrK". or. the third day of ; September, and during the first few days of his sojourn, his attention was ; challenged to a t-econd-hand Ftore ! which was conducted in the room now occupied by James Kebal as a broom j factory. At a not much later date we remember of buying a stove of the ' proprietor for !, 5. 75. We took particu i lar notice that he had no stock, and he 'declared he had no money. As the years rolled away, we saw him increase his stock, and his business moving from place to place, and occupying, a short time after the period above referred to a building owned then by J. W. John son, and now owned by the Plattsraouth Telephone Company on sixth street, with a larger stock of goods, and after a few years another move put him in the Waterman block in the room just vacated by I). M. Jones. In this place he occupied two stories, which after only a few years were inadequate to the requirements, and the property of J. V. Weckbach was purchased and two full stories and about half of the third was used. In another year this was not enough, so he purchased the room next the one which he had occupied at first for storage only. During all this time he had acquired pieces of city I property here anil there over the city and a number of lots amounting to about (io acres in old Mercervilie. About a year ago he traded his store room which he was occupying for a farm and closed out his stock of goods and bought a very valuable piece of property in Omaha. Where he has lived since January first. That prosperity has come to this man in this city is a fact beyond dispute, and that the opportunities existed for tbe success to be accomplirhed, is as certain or it never would have occurred. Now Dame Kumor has it that he has tired of the great city of Omaha and has an idea that there is no such a place as the place in which he has spent the years which brought to him that success he so much covited and for which he fought and struggled so hard in the be ginning. Sure, we welcome you back anal think it a fitting tribute to spend the remaining years in the city which conferred on you the financial success which has come to you here. Here, too, your family came to you one by one and the interests which grew up, in that family were fostered by the associations which surrounded you in the old town of Plattsmouth. We have another instance where the trophy of success perched upon the banners of a merchant who came to this place some time ago and after wards, when he thought that he would go to Omaha and engage in the whole sale business in the line in which he had found success here in the retail business. The business in Omaha did not prove so much better than the busi ness here, but on the contrary, it was just the reverse, and after a good trial at an up-hill proposition, he returned and took up the business which had brought him success here before to make a more abundant, and prosperous business than before. Such has been his experience, and he with many other acknowledges the worth of this city as a place for business and residence. The writer could "fes up" too, as to that, for he, after having accumulated a little of the needful, embarked in the telephone business and without suffic ient capital to take care of the business and no means of obtaining more, which resulted in a loss of $2,700. And he too, came back to old Plattsmouth with the experience added, and is ready to say that he believes that in this town is abundant opportunities to succeed, and it is the individuals fault if the verdict of the life be failure instead of success. Headache and constipation disappear when Dade's Little Liver Fills are used. They keep the system clean, the stom ach sweet. Taken occasionally they keep you well. They are for the entire family.
