Mrs. I'at Egan came down from
riattsmouth Saturday for a visit at
the O'Donnell home east of town.
Miss Mae Larson, who teaches south
cast of here, was taken suddenly ill
last Friday, but is reported to be slow
Jj improving.
Miss Lula Sutton, who has been
teaching northeast of town, complet
ed a successful school year last Friday,
and on Saturday she left for her home
at Syracuse.
Deane Lynde, who holds a responsi
ble position in the office of the super
intendent of the Missouri Pacific,
came down Sunday afternoon for a
short visit with his parents and other
relatives
N. I). Foster and wife Mrs. G. P.
Barton departed Tuesday for Burling
ton J unction, Mo. Mrs. Foster's health
has been failing for several months,
and it is hoped that treatment at the
sanitarium may be beneficial to her.
Miss Rose O'Donnell, teacher in the
Factoryville school, reports that on
April 29 some unknown person broke
into the school buildingand ransacked
things. Such persons if caught would
be dealt with very severely by the law.
J. W. Pitman's many friends were
pleased to meet him in town yester
day forenoon, which was his first ap
pearance here since he became serious
ly ill several months ago. lie is
gradually gaining strength and will
soon be as good as new.

Louis Schomaker and wife spent a
few days of last week visiting the
lamily of Lee Cotner near Platts
mouth. Wm. Trotter and wife are the pa
rents of a fine 104 pound girl, the ar
rival of which the stork announced
last Thursday night, the 2nd inst.
Henry Ileebner was nursing his
wrath and the bad case of rheumatism
that caused it the first of the week.
It kept him from work for a few days,
but grit and swamp root got the best
of it.

We called over the 'phone this

report him about the same. He can

a matter of time until he will be

Ernest Kropp thought be had one
finger too many. Monday morning be
and Justin Sturm were playing near
some newly sharpened listers at the
blacksmith shop and one of them fell
over on his his hand nearly severing
the third finger of one hand.
A telephone message was received
by a business man at this place Sun
day evening from Mr. McDaniel at
Murray, announcing that a small boy
came to his place crying and cold. He
gave bis name as Fabnstock and said
his parents had been having trouble
at home, that his father had driven
him off, telling him to "hit for Platts
mouth." An investigation was made i
and it was found that the boy's moth- j
er bad been out bunting for him and
when the father heard of his where
abouts he got on a horse and went af
ter him. Whether the boy's story is
true or not the neighbors are unable
to say.

James Stander left for Wyoming
Tuesday on business.
A post card from Ivanhoe, Okla.,
informs the Courier that a ten-pound
boy arrived at the home of our friend,
J. K. Lee, on Friday, May 3. Mother
and child are doing nicely and Kings
ley is as happy as the day he proved
up on his pretty Oklahoma home
stead. J. W. Griffin of Oklahoma City,
Okla., a former old-time citizen of
Louisville spent a few days here this
week visiting his many friends. Mr.
Griffin left Louisville sixteen years
ago and went direct to Oklahoma.
Although not far from seventy years
of age be wants you to understand
that he is not an old man by any
means, ne says it takes a pretty good
man to put him on his back and he ii
as ready for a foot race, as when he
used to do the barefoot stunt for the
Louisville Blues, the once famous base
ball team. Mr. Griffin has been east
visiting with relatives whom he had
not seen for twenty-eight years and
could not return without stopping off
here a few days to call on bis old
friends.

According to the Omaha Pee, a
rousinir send-off was iMven Frank J.
Riha Sunday at Ted Jed Sokol hall in
that city. From the program of exer
cises it appears that the representa
tives from Plattsmouth were greatly
in evidence on this occasion. Mr. Iliha
will leave soon as the sole representa
tive of the western turners in the in
ternational contests which will be
held at Prague, Bohemia. Turners
will go from all over the world to this
tournament and the western members
have great hopes in Mr. Riha carry
ing off some ef the prizes.
Turners from Omaha, South Omaha
and Plattsmouth joined Sunday after
noon and evening in making the occa
sion of his departure a most memor
able one. Mayor Dahlman sped the
athlete on his way with one of his
characteristic speeches and gave him
an official introduction to the tourna
ment with the seal of the city of
Omaha affixed.
The program was long and most in
teresting and was well received by the
large gathering which had turned out
to assist in the festivities. The pro
gram consisted of dumb bell exercises
by the turner girls and vocal numbers
by the turners' auxiliaries; a club drill
by the Plattsmouth women turners
and a flag drill by the South Omaha
women turners; a parallel bar drill by
the South Omaha turners and a paral
lel bar drill by the Plattsmouth turn
ers; side horse drill by the Omaha
turners and horizontal bar drill by the
South Side German turners; a dumb
bell drill by the Omaha turners and a
wand drill by the Omaha juvenile
turners; a parallel bar drill by the
junior turners and side horse drill by
the Plattsmouth turners; vaulting
table drill by the Omaha turners and
parallel bar drills by the South Omaha
and Omaha turners.

Milo, the elder son ot Dode Buskirk,
was operated upon for abscess of the
kidneys at the Everett sanitarium in
Lincoln this morning.
Miss Eva Head, a trained nurse of
Omaba who has been doing profes
sional duty in this vicinity for two
months past, returned to her home
Tuesday morning.
Miss Marie Hiller, of Lincoln, Miss
Davis of Springfield, and Mr. and Mrs.
James Turk ' were very pleasantly
entertained at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. L. F. Uhley Sunday.

Cattle Go To The Ranch.
J. R. Vallery, Ad Kiser, "Hi Henry"
and J. W. Vallery returned Friday
evening from an overland trip to Val
pariso, Neb., where they went about
one week ago with 127 head of cattle,
some young calves and five head of
horses which were taken to J. R. Val
lery's ranch near Valpariso, where the
cattle will be fattened and the horses
will be used in the farm work.

Death at Weeping Water.
A special from Weeping Water,
under date of May 111, says: "Bessie
S., wife of W. M. Kear, died in this
city yesterday evening at the age of
twenty-seven years. Mrs. Kear was
tbe only child oT Seymour Reed, and
was born and raised on the farm where
she died. Her mother died twenty
years ago. The deceased left a hus
band, an accd father and an infant
girl, five days old. The funeral will be
at the home Tuesday at 2 p. m. The
interment will be in Oakwood ceme
tery, beside her mother."

Mo., had a narrow escape four years
