W. L. Baker, postal clerk on the

to Omaha, was visiting I'lattsmouth
friends last evening. Mr. Baker lived
In I'lattsmouth years ago, but has
been In the service for the past twenty
years. Ho went to Council Bluffs this
morning to take his run east tonight

as commercial traveler, and well
known to tho people of I'lattsmouth,
came In this afternoon on the fast
mall. Mr. Lathrop lived In 1'latts
mouth a few years ago, and perhaps
will bo better remembered as tho iioy
that carried the Omaha l'.cc, and later
engaged In a fruit, candy and station
cry store, lie still carries the same
Jovial smile and has the appearance of
prosperity In every particular.

George Shrader returned home this

Texas. He visited with a numberof

Miss Trances Weldman, who has
been suffering with rcmlttant fever
for the past month, is slowly gaining
in health, although she Is still con-
fined to her bed. Miss Frances is
quite a favorite among tho young peo-
pie of I'lattsmouth, and all will be
pleased to learn that s'.ie is gaining,
although very slowly.
L. W. Patterson, wh'i has been vis

terson Is one of the old settlers of Cass
county, where he has hosts of friends
who are always pleased to see him.

his grandson, who Is In the Lincoln

for he will walk up home like a man.
Mr. Stadelman says the boy Is doing
tine, and that they have hopes of his
complete recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Carpenter, who
arrived In I'lattsmouth yesterday
evening on a short visit, departed this
afternoon for thler home in Kansas
City. Mrs. Carpenter Is a sister of
Mrs. W. S. Soper of this city, whom
they were visiting. Mr. Carpenter Is
a member of the Carpenter l'aper Co.
of Kansas City and Omaha.

for the arrival of the Bryan special

John Kracger, one of our prominent
farmers from down near Mynard, went
to Omaha this morning to consult Dr.
Gilford In regard to his eyes, which
have been troubling him a great deal
of late.

from Merino, Colo., and will remain
here until after his sister's wedding,
which takes place at Mynard, Thurs
day, September 6th. Miss Ifattle
Murray will marry Mr. William Tuel
son of Omaha.
Mr. and Mrs. Adam llild returned
from their visit with relatives in and
near Peoria and Pekln, Illinois. They
have been gone a month and report a
most enjoyable trip. On their return
home they stopped a short time at
Ottumwa, Iowa, to visit friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Thclrolf re
turned Sunday from their western trip
They visited Colorado Springs, Cripple
Creek and various other points of in
terest, but spent more time In Denver
than elsewhere. We are glad to note
that Philip has been greatly benefited
by the trip.
Mrs. Rosa Hcnnlngs and daughter,
MIssTerace, returned from Oklahoma
Ului Indian Territory Monday evening,
where they have been visiting for
nearly a month among former Cass
county people. While there Mrs.
Hcnnlngs purchased a quarter-section
of land near Poc asset, Indian Tcrrl
tory, and probably will buy another In
the near future. Mrs. Hcnnlngs and
her daughter enjoyed their visit very
much and seem highly delighted with
the country.

John Lohnes and son, C. E., were
down from Louisville today, and while
here our old friend gave the Journal a
call and renewed his subscription to
the Old Reliable. Ed. was here on
still more Important business that of
securing a license to lead one of Cass
county's most estimable young ladles
to the hymcnlal altar, In the person of
Louise Burns, also of Louisville. The
wedding will occur Thursday after
noon at the German Lutheran church,
three miles southwest of Louisville.

friends at the big "doln's" and take in

Mrs. Ed. Eldrege and daughter, who
reside near Alliance, came in last
evening and remained over night at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Schlater, returning this morning.

Willie Frledrlch, who was thrown
from a wagon loaded with wheat, and
had an arm fractured, was In the city
yesterday, accompanied by his father,
Hon. Martin L. Frledrlch, to have the
Injured member redressed. The young
man called at tho Journal office and

morning from llurllngton Junction,
Mo., where he has been to test the
