Plattsmouth vs Malvern.
The high school boys run up against
the real thing at Malvern last Satur
day, and when the dust had settled,
there were only two scores to their
credit, while the Malvern high school
had a total of seven runs. Early in
the game catcher Fitzgerald received
the unruly sphere on the end of his
fingers, and consequently he was com
pelled to withdraw from the contest.
Tothisaccidennt may be attributed
the defeat. Swearingen pitched a
magnificent game and had splendid
support except for the one inning. He
struck out nine men, while his oppon
ent struck out but 3. It looks as
though Malvern has retaliated for the
severe treatment received by them,
when they played here. The follow
ing is the score by innings:
l'lattsmouth 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0-2
Malvern 0 0001015 x 7
The support that Malvern gives her
high school athletics should put to
shame the recognition that l'latts
mouth gives the local athletic associa
tion. Malvern closes her season with
$.1uin the treasury, while the local boys
have had to put up almost one fourth
of their own expenses for the year.
