Stein, of Lincoln, will de liver the Sunday memorial address to the old soldiers. He has also been secured to give the address to the High school graduates. Dr. Stein is a very able man and a rare treat is In sured all that attend on either occa slon. At present in Cass county as traveled by our rural men, fall wheat Is looking tine, also spring wheat. Pastures are Id fine condition and stock doing well. Corn planting is progressing rapidly and ground In good shape for planting. The fruit prospects are also consld' ered good. Only recently we saw a farmer de liver several swift kicks on his horse's ribs, because the horse didn't under stand his gibberish. Yet that horse knows enough to pull his corn to mar ket, work in his field and puts in all his time for his feed. The horse is truly a beast of burden, and ought to be treated kindly. Dr. Rickard reports Jesse Domingo who was so dangerously Injured by horses two weeks ago, as Improving some, although a few symptoms have appeared not satisfactory. His mind Is perfectly clear, and he can feel a sensation when bis limbs are handled. Jesse says all he xan remember of the accident Is that in trying to get one of the horses down to the stream to drink, it reared up with Its fore feet. CASTOR I A For Infants and Children. The Kind You Have Always Bought An investment of a few hundred dollars in the organization of a com mercial club similar to that recently organized in Nebraska City, may be the means of doing wonders for Platts mouth, and at the same time not be more expensive to any one member of the club more than another. If properly organized and olllcered It could do much In the way of reviving business and placing the city on the road to greater prosperity. The people of our sister city have been fortunate In electing a mayor who Is eiiial to any emergency and has taken hold of the affairs as though he meant to bring the old town out of the kinks, and lie is backed by 1,000 of the business men In his efforts. Mayor John W. Stein hart, of Nebraska City, is not any more equal to the occasion than our own Mayor Gering under similar cir cumstances. Let Mayor Gcrmg have even two hundred of the business men of Plattsmouth and those who own property and are able to give to a worthy cause, back of him with their means the same as the 1, odd business men and property owners of Nebraska City are doing with Mayor Steinhart and things will move lively from the start, and inside of one year visitors won't know It Is the same town. The NebraskaCity Commercial Club company Is organized into shares, each share Is valued at $2.V00 and payable at the rate of 5.00 a year. The object of the company is to secure new enter prises and assist financially any manu factories that arc at present located there or may locate In that city later. The active management of the cor poration will- rest with the directors. No salaries will be paid to the direc tors or the officers of fche company. The organization will have an aggre gate of tj.ooo a year to use for the ad vancement and upbuilding of the city ! and is starting out with the determin ation of booming the city, encouraging new enterprises and keeping what they already have. The Journal would like to see such an organization eltectea in natis- moutli, and with every man who has the interests of the city at heart en listed in the cause. Could this be pos sible and with our energetic mayor In the lead, and a strong pull, and pull all together, the result will be that Plattsmouh will puton anew Impetus and soon be removed from the rut Into which we have been groveling for so many years. If Nebraska City sees the necessity of a movement of this character in order to save themselves from erasure from the map ot Ne braska It certainly behooves us to make a move In the same direction And make It now, before It is everlast lngly too late to do good. The Burlington Setting Out a Near Pacific Junction. Several months ago the Gleuwot.d Tribune told of the plans of the Burl ington mllioad company to set out 'Jon or more acres of catalpa trees mi tlio company lands near 1'acltic Junction, to he grown for making railroad ties. The Tribune nf last week has inure to say regarding the planting, as follows: "The work of setting out the trees began last week, t hily about KM acres will he planted to trees this year and more will be set out next spring. "The trees are being planted at. the east end of the company farm which lies to the south of the railroad yards. They are being set " feet apart each way. "They are yearling trees and are about two feet high. As they are set deep in the ground they do not at th'mt Ime make much of a showing. The work of setting them out Is In charge of E. M. Lang, the Junction yard boss. The trees come from Connorsvllle, lnd., and are a native of the Wabash river valley. They are said to he a different species from the catalpa trees growing in this section, such as are commonly sold by nurserymen. "The Wabash catalpa Is reported to be of much harder wood and a faster growing tree than the other varieties, and are therefore beteer adapted for use as railroad ties. "John P. lirown, editor of "Arbori culture," published at Connorsvllle, was employed by the company to come to the Junction and start the work. He was there t wo days instruct ing tin men as to the methods to be used in getting them out and caring for the catalpa. "It will require upwards of HVouo trees to cover the HO acres, hence there is a big amount of work about the undertaking." Krnft Celt Contracts (or Elk'i Suit. At the meeting of the coinmittf e, appointed by B. P. (. K. of Nebraska to examine and decide upon uniforms for the convention, winch will be held at Denver In July, the contract was secured l.y the Kraft Clothing Com pany of this city, through their repre sentative, Frank Huston. Many firms from Lincoln, Omaha, Hastings and other cities throughout were after tin order which roqulreslietween lour and six hundred suits. The style which was accepted isor.'i light gray design, hclng a two piece suit, i.r which the coat Is doul.le-brt-asted with white buttons, and the sleeve having n chevron with "Nebras ka" worked In one inch gold letters, above which is the state llowcr the golden rod. A light gray hat with a purple band completes the uniform, which Is very modest. Prospecting for Coal and Oil. An expert Is now in Nebraska City for the purpose of prospecting for coal and oil, and he assures the people of thatcitythat there is plenty of the goods if they will go down Into Mother Earth deep enough. He assures them that if they go down from three to five hundred feet they will discover a good quality of coal, and In abundance. Why not get the expert here and hear what he has to say about the prospects on the Thomas farm? Telephone Improvement. G. H. Manners was out northwest last week, and made all arrangements for another farm line. The list as completed Is as follows: A. Jorgcn- sen, W. W. Klrkpatrick, C. J. Earls, Dick Hnntcman, N. C. Nelson, II. P. Chrlstensen, J. L. Fowler,-Wm. Sharp, Fred I. Fowler, Henry Hubbard and Wm. Sperry. Another line will also he erected In thatdlrectlon, the names will appear later. Weeping Water Herald. Bears the Signature of Unable to Work. Mr. Frank Kalacek of Mound Calm, Texas, told us about the misfortune which befell him some short time ago "I wish to notify you that I have been suddenly afflicted by violent cramps in my legs and arms, which became ex tremely painful at any change of the weather. As soon as colder weather set In, I was unable to work. Then began using Trlner's American Elixir of Hitter Wine and the effect was al most miraculous. A few months ago Henry Hir. pur chased of the Strauh Brothers, living near Avoca, in Otoe county, a line thoroughbred Perclieron stallion, Col onel Head by name, and brought It home with him, and with the horse Mr. Hir. has been making the season on his farm west of l'lattsinoiith. The Strauh boys did not realize the loss of this excellent horse to them and also to the stockbreeders of that community until a few days since when Vlnce and David Strauh made their appearance at the home of Mr. Hir. for the purpose of buying hack Colonel Head, und were very much disappointed when the present owner refused to part with hhn. So the boys returned home content with the promise from Mr. Hliv, that he would send the horse down for their use lor a few days. This shows that Colonel Head is a line animal, and for breeding purpnse.ss is one of the best In the country. The Strauh boys are well known stock men of Otoe and Cass counties, and really regret that they parted with this fine animal. The Forger Photographed. A special from Beatrice has the fol lowing to say regarding the forger, W. B. Wilson alias W. B. Fills, who Is wanted In Plattsmouth on the charge of passing a forged check on P F. Goos of the Plattsmouth hotel: "A complaint was tiled today by the county attorney against the man call ing himself W. B. Ellis, caught at tempting to pass forged checks last Saturday evening. The charge as set forth In the complaint is forging, uttering of forged paper and having forged papers in his possession. A warrant was Issued, but owing to tho absence of the sheriff it had not been served at a late hour this afternoon.
