Marks was up from Union today -on important business. J. II. and II. F. Ilelirns of near Xe hawka were in the c ity today on busi ness. II. L. I'eters and V. II. Hetts of Avocawerein tlie county seat today on business. Mrs. J. U. Sanders returned today from a week's visit in Ashland with her sister. Hans Tams,who is employed at the Durlinyton depot in Lincoln, w as down to spend Sunday, and while here called and renewed for the Journal. J. T., IMair and Wade I'orter, from near Murray were in I'lattsmouth Sunday. John came up to secure a man to assist him in gathering his large corn crop. August Stoll, who has resided in Crss County for Q years, departed this afternoon with the I'lattsmouth party for California to spend the win ter with relatives. Jacob Meisingerand Geo. Kraer went to Omaha Monday morn to visit the latter's sister, Mrs. Geo. Meising er, who recently submitted to a surgi cal operation for tuberculosis. Her condition is reported favorably. Farmers are in town every day on the lookout for men to help them har vest their corn crops. There is no need of loafing these days, unless a man is too lazy to work. Ordinary laborers can make two dollars a day easy in the cornfield. Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Green, of Man ey, are rejoicing over the arrival of a daughter at their home. The little lady made her appearance Sunday, October 13. The Journal extends con gratulations and trusts that she may live lung to comfort her parents. A. J. Snyder departed Monday for Ulysses, Neb., where he will spend several weeks visiting his sister, Mrs. Gilmonr, and viewing the county in that section of Nebraska. Andy in formed a Journal reporter that he had no idea of locating there permanently Judge Travis is on the mend, able to sit up, and would have been down to hisortice today, but the weather would not permit. The matterof the estate if George I. Nickel, deceased, was transacted at his home in consequence Mrs. Nickel and son, Edward, came in this morning to adjust matters in this case. William J. Doty desires a dissolution of marriage relations with his wife, Klizabeth Doty, and has tiled action in the district court to this end. The couple were married in Wayne county, Ohio, in 1569, and are very well known in I'lattsmouth. Desertion is alleged as the principal cause for this action. Grace E. May field and James II. Ash have brought suit in district court to have the estate of Patrick Ash, who died January 31, 11)02, intestate, owning lots 479 and 4S0 in Louisville, disposed of and divided between the heirs. Nellie M. Kobertson, Lee J. Maytield and others are made defend ants. C. liengen, who visited at various points in the central part of the state Jast week, gave the Journal a call Mon morning. He visited the Willem boys at Norfolk and says they are doing well in the dairy business. The boys are running two wagons and milking forty cows. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are en route for Virginia, 111., to visit a daughter, and stopped off at Nehawka to visit their son, T. II. Smith. They will leave for Virginia this afternoon via the llurl ington. Doctors Said He Would Not Live. Peter Fry, Woodruff, Pa., writes: "After doctoring for two years with the best physicians in Waynesburg, and still getting worse, the doctors advised me if I had any business to attend to it at once, as 1 could not possibly live another month as there was no cure for me.
