Don't Forget Your Friends.
The following is from a Missouri
farmer's address before a farmers' in
stitute: "As a rule the farmer knows
no tlrmer fried than the country press.
The home paper is distinctly the far
mers' own paper, supported directly or
indirectly by the farmers who compose
the backbone of the printer's subscrip
tion list, and largely for what the en
terprising merchant advertises. Xow,
brothers, let us not forget our friends.
Let us see that our subscription is
paid before the first of January, and a
year in advance if we can afford it.
The man or the paper that rights my
battles shall have my support. An
other thing, the merchants who ad
vertise are the ones who make it pos
sible for us to get a good local paper:
and the men or firms who are too pen
urious to advertise and help support
the local press have no right to the
farmers' patronage. I propose here
after to go to a good, live, local adver
tiser, and a man who will do his share
in supporting the local press, thus con
tributing to my support, rather than
buy of the man who proposes to take
all and give nothing in return."

NEW BUILDING AT NORFOLK
Earl
Wescott. a Plattsmouth Lad,
Gets
Contract for Wiring Same.
The following, relative to the new
tuilding at Norfolk, is clipped from
the Lincoln Journal of this morning,
in which it will be noted that Earl
Westcott, of this city, has been award
ed the contract for wiring the build
ing for electric light:
"Contracts for a new building at
Norfolk asylum were awarded yester
day by the board of public lands and
buildings. A portion of the old build
ing that was destroyed by fire is to be
rebuilt. This in addition to the three
cottages and an administration build
ing, will give room for many patients
and relieve the pressure on the hospital
for the insane at Lincoln and the
asylum at Hastings. Forty patients
are now sleeping on the lloor at the
Lincoln hospital. The indications are
that many dipsomaniacs will be crowd
ed into the Lincoln hospital within a
few months and unless the Norfolk
asylum is able to accept patients the
pressure will be unusually great at
Lincoln.
There were only two bidders on the
new building at Norfolk, Kellner it
Woerth, whose price was !!, 17.r, and
J B. Herman of Norfolk, whose oiler
was -?lT,lj!i. The board awarded the
contract to the lowest bidder. Plumb
ing and heating will be done by F. C.
Phillips it Co , of Lincoln, whose bid
was $.',;27. The wiring for electric
lights will be done by E. C. Wescott,
of l'lattsmouth, for (8:5."
