The Universitv of Missouri has
installed a course in poetry writing
That may be all right down in Mis
souri where there is a chance to escape
to the Bwamps. but it would not work
in Nebraska. But every state has its
freaks, and we do not know as a
course in poetry in Missouri is any
worse than a course in Bryanism in
Ne raska. "
W. C. T. U.
"The wife of the florist, do you
know her" The wife of the florist,
does anybody know her" It is too
bad even after the repetition of the
phrase, no one was brave enough to
own an acquaintance. The "Denying
Peters'" are still alive in Piattsmouth
it seems. Some more buttons should
be sold to pay a lecturer, who will
overlook the gravest evils of a town
(the saloons and gambling, and criti
cise a few women who are injuring
none and helping some to have a
few luxuries they would not other
wise have. Rev. Austin struck the
keyhole of the situation when he
advocated the "boosting" of the
saloons out of town, and every Christ
ain should glory in his manly frank
ness in putting the harm just where
it bclongiM. When the drain of the
saloon is removed such a puerile
"booster" will not need to come to
Piattsmouth to cry over the few
dollars spent by women for their
own betterment when hundreds of
dollars are squandered by men who
arc upholding a business whose exis
tence is a national disgrace and
which is run by men you will not meet
socially, and who are debarred from
65 Fraternal Orders.
"Beautify your town." Yes, and
the first step is the ablishing of saloons,
then it will grow beautiful like magic.
York docs not have to bo "boosted".
The town gets what goes to the saloon
in this place, and fair dealing holds
the trade and the homes of the wage
earners are sightly and comfortable.
In closing will say that if anyone
really wants to know the "florists
wife", the addresses of more than a
hundred can be given who know her
through her flowers and help in
sickness, and if the small minded
"tipper" will conic forward a few
inside inklings will be given that may
open the eyes to both sides of the
question, and last I will suggest to
the critics to turn to Mat hew, 7, and
and ponder on its meaning, for it
might include right feeling towards
eve n

"There was an English bishop, the
bishop of Oxford, who could reel off
wonderful rhymes," said a London
clergyman. "The bishop once wrote
a rhyme, about a cassowary:
"I would I were a cassowary
On the plains of Timbuktu!
I would eat a inh'slonury,
Cassock, bands and hymn book tool
"A dispute once arose about the au
thorship of that rhyme. The bishop
of Oxford claimed It, and a punster
on runeb also claimed It. According
ly, os a test, the word Jehoshaphat
was submitted to the two claimants
for rhyming. The man who best
rhymed that difficult if not impossible
word would be Judged the true author
of the cassowary effort.
"Well, the Punch punster failed fell
down completely but the bishop of
Oxford easily proved his rightful own

dashing off on the spur of the mo
