    SAD ACCIDENT
AT METROPOLIS
Infant Burned to Death tn Fire In
City of Omaha.
OMAHA, Nov. 10. ARRio Zidirieh
is dead am I her sistcrsllosie anil Annie,
aged four and two yeans, respectively,
are dangerously burned from a lire
which occurred in this city yesterday.
After Mr. Zidirieh had gone to work
his wife took the co;il basket and went
out on the railroad tracks, to pick, up
coal, as was her custom, leaving' the
three children in the house. Soon after
Adam CJ nicer, an old man who hap
pened to be passing, heard screams
from the house and saw smoke coming
from the burning building. He at
tempted to force open the door but
failed. With his bare fist he smashed
out the window and crawled into the
bedroom, which by that time was a
seething mass of flames.
Chokingly the aged man stumbled
through the eaiokc and flames to the
bed where the helpless babies lay.
Snatching one in his arms (1 racer made
his way out of the bouse, deposited his
wnthintr. burden on the ground and
returned to tho burning house. He
made two more trips, rescuing all of
the children.
Tho infant lived but a few minutes
and was dead before an amhulanco
arrived. The two older girls were
rushed to a hospital, where efforts arc
being made to save their lives.
When Mrs. Zidirich returned from
the tracks and learned of tho terrible
disaster, her mind gave way under its
burden of grief. She is being detained
to prevent her doing violence to herself.

FOR PLATTSMOUTII

Almost Completed.
WASHINGTON, Nov. lO.-There
arc four cities in Nebraska where there
will be new buildings erected just as
Boon as the department can get to
them. These are Plattsinouth, Colum
bus, Fremont and Beatrice.
At Beatrice additional plans are be
ing made for a $50,000 addition to the
building they now have.
At Fremont their already very spa
cious building will be given a $1)0,000
addition.
At Columbus a new building will be
erected to cost something .like $35,000
and the plans are now about two
thirds completed.
At Plattsmouth sketches and plans
for the new building at that place will
be taken up before the first of the year
and we hone to have the specifications
ready for the bidders soon after tho
first of January. I lie matter will be
pushed as fast a., possible.
Granted Divorce.
Elizabeth Cummin&i was granted a
divorce from Isaac N. Cumniin&s to
day. She sud also for alimony,
which, however, was denied.

Ohio Man In Trouble Because He
was too Much Married.
CLEVELAND, Nov. 10. Lucien
Pickett needed money and he used the
wedding road as the easiest means to
get it. Withinja short timejlic was nble
to contract five wives ami several
thousand dollars. When caught he
had made arrangements to marry two
more anxious damsels, but the law
stepped in and lie now rests in durance
vile while the court will probably
teach him that the way of the trans
gressor is hard. Pickett admits that
he formerly served a term in the Joliet
penitentiary for the same crime.
Gotch Still Champion.
CHICAGO, Nov. 10. Frank Gotch
easily defeated the Italian with the
unpronounceable name last night in
two straight falls, the first in 10 min
utes and 2S seconds and the sccoiul in
5 minutes and 28 seconds. Giovanni
Kaicevitch was no match for the
sturdy American who could have
closed up the bout or prolonged it just
as he saw fit.

Child Drowned.
A fifteen months old child belonging
to Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of Pal
myra, fell from a foot bridge into the
water at that place Tuesday and was
dead when found. The little one had
strayed from home and in crossing
the bridge is supposed to have lost its
alancc and fallen over.

o'clock p. m. Monday, Decenilier 6,
1901), for the construction of wood and
steel bridges for Cass county, Nebras
ka, for the year 11)10.
