SYSTEM
Plattsmouth's New Telephone Com
pany Open for Business.
Is Kqulpprfl With All the Latent Improve
ment Known Id the Construction of
Telephone System Company Now Hps
One Hundred and Thirty Subscriber
and Are Adding- Sew One.
The I'lattemouth Telephone comany
is making rapid progress in getting
their lino in operation, despite the
cold woather, and have 6omething
like sixty 'phones in operation now.
A description of the workings of the
now system will be of interest to the
readers.
The switch board in use at the cen
tral office i-t cailed the Express and is
the fastest board made for email ex
changes, being large enough to accom
modate 2U0 subscribers. The system
is equipped with long distance trans
mitters and is tho Quest work of the
electrician's art throughout. One of
the points in favor of the board is that
heti a subscriber desires to he con
nected with a certain number one
ring is sufficient that ii, you do not
h ive to wait for the connection to le
mi.de and then riur again, but can
bgin talking with tbe number called
for without hanging up the receiver
at all.
The transmitteJ used i - the Hun
nincs, and has the multiple contact,
which increase the volume of s u id.
rendering speech as intelligb.e as
though you were in conversation with
one in the same room. In fact a con
versation can be carried on in a whis
per over the line when everything is
put in pertect order. The system uses
tho double poll typo of reeeiver, which
is much stronger than those formerly
in use.
The manner in which the wires are
placed is what is known as the cum-
mon return system one large wire
being carried through the city and is
tapped at each office or store where a
telephone is placed.
T. H. Ewiug of Topeka, Kan., an
electrician and telephone man of wide
experience is superintendent of con
struction and expects to have the
system completed in a few days. His
wife is assisting him and is acting as
operator until it i9 finished.
The new company now has 130 sub
scribers and is adding new ones all
the time and tho promoters, Messrs.
Pollock and Parmele, have reasons to
feel encouraged for the bright pros
pects of the company's future.

is in regard to our Union Underwear 5
for men. It may bo that you have
never become acquainted with this
kind of underwear, and therefore
don't appreciate its many advant
ages. Being one continuous piece from
top to bottom, there is no pulling or
sagging none of that uncomfortable
rolling up and bunching of the shirt
and drawer about the waist. There
is an evenness and perfection to the
fit that lends itself to the better ap
pearance of the outer garments. A
man said to us the other day, after
giving this kind of underwear a thor

other kind. Maybe you'll be just like
